The best mud terrain?

If you want a mud tire you really can't beat the Super Swamper tsl, bias tsl and radial tsl both get high marks in almost all categories.

The Procomp X terrain and Mickey Thompson Baja Claw do very well too, but seem to suffer a bit on lateral traction, they tend to slide sideways on side slopes. STAY AWAY from the Procomp extreme mud terrain, they really do suck in the mud compared to all I have listed and they're loud for what they are..

Next are the new Goodyear mt and BFG km2, they do pretty good in the mud and excel on most terrain.

Not many other mud terrains can stack up against the ones I listed and I have used many many mudders over the years and wheel with a wide variety of people using a wide variety of mud tires, this is my take on it anyways.

DO youknow anything about the mt the mickey thompson makes? They look pretty neat but again i'm trying to get a good all around tire

My tsl's have been wearing pretty well, they dont look hardly different from the day I bought them used, except for all of the little cuts in the nobs but thats from my fenders

I agree with him. Super Swamper TSL radial are great. Alot of people say they suck on the road but I never had any problems. I bought mine with about 60 percent tread and they lasted me 2 years. Would have lasted longer if i rotated them but the insides wore down because of my alignment. Got bfg a/t's after those with about 40 percent tread and they only lasted a few months before they wore out. Never slipped tire in the snow with the swampers and never really got stuck. They took some gnarly abuse and has some major cuts in them but always held air. Never had to get one patched.

My buddy just bought a set a few months ago, 35's on 17's, he hasn't had a chance to air em down on the trail yet, but at street pressure they aren't too bad.
They clean out in the mud fairly well and throw mud well too. He was able to back out of the deeper mud when forward progress halted too, as long as he didn't spin down much. Traction on hard bottom slick mud was ok, not great but ok, he really needed to air down and see what they could do at trail pressures. They slipped around more than the BFG and GY, but they had em aird down, so the comparison isn't exactly fair.
In the firmer terrain like gravel and such they seemed to do OK too and same with in soft sand, floatation and traction weren't bad.
On the rocks at street pressure wasn't great, but what would you expect, the tires wouldn't grab well or form to the terrain at the 35-40psi he has in em, no tires would tho.

I have been out with him wheeling several times over the last few months and the Mickey Thom's MT have impressed me, I'd say they are close to the BFG KM2 and new Goodyear MT/R if not the same. (Again, they're no super swamper off road)

Like I said tho, he hasn't aired em down at all yet, they will be even better aired down, I'm sure of that. I'm looking forward to seeing them work in the deep snow we get here.

They're fairly quiet on the road and took little weight to balance too.

Oh and he's running a 4.5" rough Country lift on an 08 Rubicon with the 35x12.5/17 Mickey Thompson MT's.

I don't know if these are available in your size goodyear duratracs. They are popular around here because they are an agressive tire that work better in mud than a standard at but are excellent on snow and ice.

I love my Goodyear MT/Rs they have gotten me through alot and their on rod manners are great. I have them in the 33" flavor and its daily driven on the highway and I have no complaints. Will surely be purchasing another set only in 35"

Well we don"t get any snow around here and i don't go up in the hills too far to where I need it but i guess it would never hurt to have it just in case hell froze over. and as far as swampers i don't really have the money to by a set new because 31's aren't exactly a common size for them, at least around here. But if i find a set then i would grab em in a heart beat. and i guess the micky thompson's aren't really what i'm lookin for but thanks for the input.I just don't want to buy a tire that has no road manners at all and are an offroad only tire.
