TFI to EDIS Thought Experiment

looking at the line of grim under the lip on the dummy plug, it didn't seem to fit all the way flush originally either.

No, it goes all the way in with the 4L block. I think what you're seeing is some residual RTV that someone used rather than properly replacing the O-ring.

maybe the 2.9 has more room in the slot?

measure the offset to the oil pump drive shaft. may just be bottoming out. i know there is a difference from 4.0 to 2.9...its small but exists. may be as simple as dusting it off with a flap wheel.....

I've made some significant progress on this project. Relative to the most recently discussed topics ^^^, I discovered that indeed the 4L OHV EEC-IV dummy plug or cam sync DOES work as-is. I think my issue was with my old mock-up 2.9 engine that may have had some gunk built up. The EEC-V cam sync does NOT fit as the upper portion of the sensor is larger than the EEC-IV version and fights for space with the lower intake. That's probably solve-able by taking a big half-round file to the intake, but I'll just use one of the EEC-IV versions as pictured below.

I let my wife drive the "new" car for the first time yesterday. It is her car after all, but I've been reluctant to throw her the keys with all the challenges I had during this project. But I had enough test drives in at this point to feel confident. I watched from the front porch as she went out the driveway and took the left onto the road ...where she promptly did an unintended "one-wheel-peel" burn out.

I received a text 10 minutes later... "Holy shit, that was insane!"
