I got a 2004 ford ranger tremer or edge (bed doesn't say could be a fx4 idk) but i took the 4.0 out and swapped a 2000 ford explorer 5.0 in it, i got everything working but the temperature gauge on the dash, when the car is running it starts off at cold but roughly 5 to 10 seconds of the engine running the gauge starts climbing and after 60 to 90 seconds maybe alittle more its pegged out all the way on hot but when i connect a scan tool to the computer the computer is seeing well below 150 degrees so i looked it up and there are 2 temperature sensors one for the computer and the other for the cluster so with it running i unplugged the sensor for the gauge and the gauge dropped back to cold instantly but as soon as i plugged it back in it went straight to hot so i changed that temperature sensor with a brand new one twice and has the same issue i noticed on the 4.0 its got 2 wires and the 5.0 only uses 1 wire, could the 2 wire vs 1 make a difference
