I got a 2004 ford ranger tremer or edge (bed doesn't say could be a fx4 idk) but i took the 4.0 out and swapped a 2000 ford explorer 5.0 in it, i got everything working but the temperature gauge on the dash, when the car is running it starts off at cold but roughly 5 to 10 seconds of the engine running the gauge starts climbing and after 60 to 90 seconds maybe alittle more its pegged out all the way on hot but when i connect a scan tool to the computer the computer is seeing well below 150 degrees so i looked it up and there are 2 temperature sensors one for the computer and the other for the cluster so with it running i unplugged the sensor for the gauge and the gauge dropped back to cold instantly but as soon as i plugged it back in it went straight to hot so i changed that temperature sensor with a brand new one twice and has the same issue i noticed on the 4.0 its got 2 wires and the 5.0 only uses 1 wire, could the 2 wire vs 1 make a difference

Sounds like the resistance range is wrong for the instrument cluster. Which cluster are you using?

The 2004 ranger cluster that came with the ranger

Ok so the cluster is only sending 5 volts to the sensor which is probably the entire problem because its suppose to be a 12v sensor
