tapping in DS valve cover

Not really sure why a mechanic would have to guess as to the answer, and yes I realize not everyone who visits this site is a mechanic. But some are.
Anyway, I have already found the answer to my questions. It's got to do with blow-by from piston rings on an older engine and possible bad PCV valve. So I will be replacing valve stem seals along with the lifter and a new PCV valve as well.
Sorry if I am coming off as a a-hole or something. It's not meant that way.

its not just the pcv valve.....its coolant as well. and the way it read to me and the way the pictures are viewing its typical of any engine.


i rarely venture into this forum. rebuilding 2.9 and 4.0 ohv engines is a trainwreck on a good day. i learned that over 20 years ago.

dealing with and diagnosing these via keyboard outside of classic symptoms is not something that will pay off for either party. a partially burned valve a guy caused by some ingenious seafoam additions for no reason is a tough one.... from the combination of egr and pcv blowby over a given period causing a random misfire, then backfire causing a vac leak that burns the electrode off of a plug that damages a valve is hard to catch when your not the guy working on it.

the codes an engine would give a guy would lead one down any path but the correct one....

so, mechanic patrolling the 4.0 forum? sure.....here the days you need an answer....not a sure bet.
