Does anyone have any experience putting fitting a 351w, with Twisted Wedge heads and tall valve covers?

I got a heat only box to swap with the a/c box. Will that clear? And was also concerned with the booster...

I don't believe those heads are really any taller than a factory casting. If you have a body lift you will be ok with the tall valve covers. Without I'm not all that sure. I'll be taking mine out before the engine goes back in and was wondering if that covers will hit the booster. Unless you need them to clear rockers I know a standard cover will clear. If the booster is in the way I was going to use a hyroboost setup. The heater box need cut up reguardless body lift or not.

The 351W will hit the AC box and major surgery on the box is necessary. I don't know if I've heard of a 351 swap that retained the AC. I'm not sure about the booster, but it can be changed to a smaller one so IMHO that is not a problem.

So, even if you get all that worked out there is still the issue of a proper exhaust header. That is why very few ever attempt the swap you are talking about.

What's so hard about that? I figured I'd build my own double jointed shaft, and then fab up a set of headers. I'm way more worried about all the firewall accessories.

Me and my old man build some of the sickest and trickest drag cars around. Columns and headers are a common task for us. I'm just used to having the firewall flat and bare.

Then do it! Nothing like a father son project and you guys are already serious gearheads!

We expect pics and details on the fabrication :icon_welder:

Stock 302 with stock heads and tall stamped Edelbrock valve covers with a 3" bodylift. A 351 is taller, unless you put the engine way far ahead heater box mods will be required.

Here's my heater box notch, remind you there is a 3 inch body lift on this truck. The valve cover is pretty much sitting in that notch.

.035 is nothing you will notice over stock. This is the only pic I can find for reference how close the booster and cover is.

It would be pretty close without the B/L

You can get certain factory manifolds to fit with these swaps so it's not as hard as it seems. With good heads a manifold is pointless. Headers aren't bad to make if you have the talent. I barely had to dimple one tube and that was just for insurance. I don't recommend long tubes on a 4x4 i will never do another set like that.

My advice. Pull the heater box off. Set the engine. If it hits the booster use hydro boost. Trim and install heater box. Aside from headers, more power and the taller deck it is a 302 swap.

My heater box is a b!tc#. It's already notched for my shock tower. I even had to relocate the motor vent on the box.... This thing won't hardly blow air by the time I'm done.... Dunno if I'd even be able to take it in and out around the shock and an engine.

I know the clutch master is a royal PITA, because its blocked by the left shock tower.

really???

i have built a few boxes...they dont flow as good and are ugly but work. roll the engine a bit with at least a 2 in b/l and its pretty easy.

with the tw heads i can get away with smashing the baffles on stock covers using the shorter studs.

F-it. I'm just gunna drop it in and modify the box to fit. It's my only option, especially since I refuse to put a body lift in my ride.

That's pretty much what you have to do. I'll be doing the same thing since my body lift is coming out...just not a fan of them anymore

How tall is your BL?

I'm starting to think that I wouldn't mind a 1". Most of my body mounting stuff is in need of replacement anyway.

it's 3 inch. For as big as this truck is getting made to be it's not needed anymore.

Maybe easier on a 4X4 with a body lift, but building another under hood heater/AC box is more work that 99% will attempt.
