TALL 351w fitment???

A 4x4 without a body lift is no different than a 4x2 without a body lift as far a heater boxes are concerned. Yes keeping A/C with either is a pain. A 351's deck is 1.3 inches taller than a 302. Not all that much, so it isn't that much harder than a 302 to accomplish. Anybody can cut a hole in a heater box and throw a piece of fiberglass to cover it. Not everybody can build a set of headers to get the performance from the engine. Headers would be what holds most back

Maybe easier on a 4X4 with a body lift, but building another under hood heater/AC box is more work that 99% will attempt.

ya know.......your right for the most part.
i looked through my pics looking for a box and cant find any. its easier to do then you think though. it takes me longer to heat and form a non ac box then to cut and glue an ac box, i cant heat and form the ac type and get it to go back together right...it restricts flow doing it the easy way but it works...it isnt pretty either doing it the easy way. but its easy. for the majority of the guys here that actually document this silly shit, making it look awesome and doing a better job then a pig like me is no hard task.

now. what i mean about for the most part is this.

for every ranger i see in here swapped...theres 20 i seen winging on their own that will never see a web page. bigblocks to inlines.

MOST people that SWAP engines into shit like rangers and similar easy to work with critters that never came that way from the factory, will never post in a website or ask any questions about how to do it.

they just do it:dunno:

i have worked on/consulted or totally completed dozens of swaps over the last 25 plus years with just the ranger platform not to mention all of the other silly shit from sand rails to vegas.

i wont ask how to put a powerstroke or a ecoboost or current 300 hp 3.7 n/a engine or any ls into my ranger or bronco 2....
i will just do it if i want one or run into one at the right price

i tried searching the rrorc for some pics i had there and cant find it from a set of 351 swaps in 2001 i actually took pics of, both with ac boxes only one actually had ac that worked though the other was just hollow.....had pics of a heat and dimple on a reg box as well...and one where mine got wrecked from forgetting i had the 500 watt light on it and went to bed.

i never seen a ecoboost ranger, but would not be surprised if there is one prowling around farmington hills either.

nightmare, with a sas application its easier to lower the powertrain and not need a bodylift in many cases...

Tominator, dont take this as bagging on you bud, you have done a beautiful job with your application....upper class for this specific 5.0 swap imo.

its just the surety of your statement clashes so hard with what i have seen, i forget how much i take for granted. so its a bit shocking to say the least.

dont take me wrong...

i sure as fawk have not seen it all and will ask questions about shit i see that does not seem patently obvious to me....i have found more then ever its amazing what others do to solve the same issues...i love learning from it and hope to apply it some way at another time if i remember it:D

How does a SAS give you room to lower the engine...

I still have the same crossmember under my engine, and I have to find a cop car oil pan just to squeeze a 351w in.

No offense taken. One thing a person must consider is the use and functional qualities they want/need. How you then proceed may be completely different. How are your skills at EFI, welding, metal bending or do you have some help if you lack the skill?

AC or no AC....or even completely deleting both. Steering, brake booster, bell housing and engine placement. All questions that you and I would consider but as you stated most the swaps out there, Ranger or otherwise are just folks that decide to do it using what they had.

Now, enter RPS and usually when one posts about a swap it's several pages until even some of those questions are answered. Even then many of us just used our own experiences to come up with a solution. It may not be simple or the steps we used may not be the same, but we got there.

That's what Hot Rodding is all about!:icon_hornsup:

that is true, using the factory engine crossmember will dictate how low you can put the engine. Losing that crossmember and a 1/2 or 1 ton sas you can get the engine lower. Rockwells not so much, the 3rd member and oil pan will fight for the same space without a ton of lift so it can be creative.

Bobby you are right. There are tons of projects of all sorts that never have seen the internet and done with zero support of that nature . If there's a will and enough money any thing is possible. I don't know it all either but I know what I have seen personally, helped build, built myself and if it was possible and works.
