I was told-by a bronco owner- that there is, or was, a problem with the tail shaft housing.
I have a 95 2.3 2 wheel drive with the 4R44E trans
while looking for the cause of a weird, intermitant vibration, I found a lot of play at the driveshaft/tailshaft connection. the seal is not leaking but the shaft can be pushed quite a bit in any direction.
is there a bushing inside the t/s housing that the driveshaft rides in? if so, is it replacable?
while at o'reilly's, I asked about rebuilt trannies. their computer brought up a pic of what they offer (for $1700), which does not have a tailshaft housing.
