Was installing ray bestow ball joints. Bottom went in great. Top goes in half way then the press just twists and slides off. After a few attempts I looked some stuff up online. Read about the autozone press not having the correct size tooling. The stud is too long. So I beat it in with a hammer. Its almost in enough to get the snap ring on. Can get it on the front but not the back. Took it to Napa. He couldn't get it in either. Now the edges are all rounded.

Tack weld it?

Worried the passenger side will be the same way

File the round off square and put the press back on. Press it as hard as possible then whack the knuckle and retighten. Maybe add a TOUCH of heat if possible. Any more than a touch will ruin tge ball joint.

Did you inspect the hole before you put it in? And get your mind out pf the gutter...

Haha. My press isn't usable as the receiving cup isn't tall enough. The stud touches the disk before the cup. When you put pressure on it the stud goes sideways and pulls the press off. I only asked because some ball joints are tack welded from the factory. I've actually had this ball joint in 3 different time now. And it always inserts to the same depth and never any further. Every time I've put bearing grease around it.

If the shoulder on the b/j is touching the face on the knuckle (ie. no space) then it's all the way in. There are no snap rings on mine, never have been.

Gonna pull out the ball joint and press in the original

I just did ball joints on my b2 can't remember if it's the upper or lower but it has a grove for a snap ring an even comes with one but you can't get it on because of the angle the hole was drilled at. At firsts I thought someone might have put the old one in wrong but once I got the new one in as far as it would go I realized you
Don't need the snap ring.
