I don't think you want to try to do AWD on TTB front end anyway. It's not designed to be turning at all times and speeds, the Explorer (and later Ranger) IFS is designed for it

Thanks for the input guys. sorry for the delayed reply, been sitting back letting the responses pile up. As far as emissions go, IDGAF, as in my county you smog once (when you 1st register) and then you don't have to smog it again. and with being on the border of Nevada I can register there as a worst case scenario. I'm going 4.0 as its a much simpler swap than the 5.0 definitely leaning towards the super charger (easier install and more low end power), as this is a crawler project, and torque is what I want.

There is another route you could consider. That would be to build a good strong motor, but skip the blower/turbo and concentrate on gearing (diff ratio, transfer case gears or doubler) to multiply your torque. That could be a bit less stressful on the engine.

I am getting 17.5 mpg with mixed city and interstate driving and got 19 out on the interstate doing 85mph. Try that with a 302............and yet I got the power of a stock 302. I did get 18 mpg in a 5.0 Stang but it's much lighter. I am likely to add some better heads and headers when I need to rebuild the bottom end. I also see no need for expensive forged internals unless you are going to run over 6lbs of boost and then you need an intercooler or extra injection to cool it.
