SuperCab Short bed to Long bed swap...

I know it's been asked a bunch of times and I understand what needs to be done mechanically on a '98+ for the swap... But has anyone actually done it? I've been searching through threads for hours and come up with nothing. Has anyone taken a picture, or even photoshop'd one?

I like having a lot of cab room, but after owning a seven-footer, I'd never go back to a short box. Contemplating putting one together, but it'd be nice to have a visual.

Wonder if there are any legal ramifications for stretching one using factory parts...

Was thinking it would look pretty decent along these lines, with Sport body colored flares added on (pardon my non-skilled photochop).

I ran across one for sale on CL, it was a bit to far to go check out. The pics looked pretty good though. I don't know how they extended the frame but they obviously had to. I'm sure if you put your mind to it it wouldn't be to hard. As far as legality, some states have laws about frame modifications and some don't, Just ask a local inspection mechanic.

I remember 2 or 3 guys on here having done it to 1st and maybe 2nd gen. Rangers and posting up pictures of them, but that was years ago.

I always wanted to do it to a 1st gen., but figured it wasn't worth it. I could just make or buy a bed extender to make the 6' bed more like a 7' to 7 1/2' bed. Unless you're hauling a big load of light weight cargo (like furniture, etc.) or something just a little too long for a short bed, it really wouldn't do much, except be the extra weight of the extra 1' of bed, frame, etc. The longer wheel base would give a smoother ride, but wouldn't turn tight.

But I like that picture you posted, looks good.

I have the '98 short box s/c; the long box frame; some sheetmetal stiffners to extend the frame the required 6"; spare drive shaft to lengthen, extra wire to extend the axle and lights connectors.

I've just been looking for the perfect 7' box (and waiting on nice weather).

I know that there are at least 8 rivets per side to separate the rear frame section from the front, then just switch sections from 6' to 7'.

I had removed all those rivets on a 99 frame with intent to put a 95 cab on it, as I was gonna move the rear section forward to do away with the extra 4" of cab on the 99, but got side tracked, and scrapped the whole project.
