Sub Woofer's Lets See What You Got!

Thats a bad ass box, I must say! The reed sony's do stand out a little much like people are saying but I must say that I have ran a set of thsoe in 10's in a sierra in a downfire pre-fab for over 4 years and have never had an issue with them yet. They are good for what they are and how much they are. What subs are you wanting to run once you replace them?

I've never really researched subs to find out which way I wanted to go. I've always had other projects that took center stage. Until they die I doubt I'll put the effort into getting a new setup. Right now I'm wrapped up in my axle project

Always a fun project. My sierra is my "to do" list at the moment with its straight axle costs starting to hit the roof. Sony's are a decent sub for smaller air spaces. They dont need alot of airspace to sound decent and they are cheap and will last forever it seems. Now granted, you put one of those 12's in a 1.5 cu.ft or larger box and then compare another sub like a kicker or JL or another sub on the same line and it will fall short real fast. I run the sony's and i actually like them.

after you posted these pics i knew remembered seeing that in another thread a while back, i guess i didnt realize it was in an explorer though. does it make alot of noise with all the equipment in there when youre driving or does the lid do a good job of deadening the sound?

If you have the lid open you can here stuff rattling around but with it closed you dont here anything making nay noises.

alrighty so running a new custom driver i built. tc9 based with a dc lvl5 coil doul medium spiders. wide roll rubber surround. box is on the larger side. 2.75ft^3. audiopipe ap 1500. shit gets LOUD and LOW

switched to sonys

made a sub enclosure with the mtx amp, the sonys, and a JVC 12 disc changer and a Rockford Fosgate 1Farad capacitor. The enclosure bolts into the factory holes used for the rear seats so anytime I want I can just yank it back out and put in my seats and nobody would ever know the difference

then I reupholstered it to match the seats

...I feel like you should post some dimensions for that box.... :)

haha, I might even still have the patterns. As long as my parents didn't throw them out when they cleaned house a few months ago. For almost every piece on the box I made a cardboard template.

My system was 2 rockford fosgate p2 punchs with a kenwood x1200m which put out to much power popped my back window out and if you look at my pictures the box with the carpet on it is the one that was the one that popped my back window out i have some videos with lower powered subs but it is not the same. I had just a dual ported box going across the whole back and yeah it was intense it made my girlfriend get out of my truck and walk 2 miles. you just gotta watch what you buy and check the specifics on how the subs should be mounted, the rms and everything else. and if you get what is right for your subs it shouldnt make a diff how shitty the amp or how low powered the subs it will still pound like there is no tomorrow

quality does matter. you will not get the same out of a $20 sub as you would with a $200 sub, otherwise nobody would buy expensive subs. we'd all be buying pyle and sony, etc. lower priced subs can sound great, but they wont hold their own compared to subs that cost 5 times their price. . that extreme outdoing gets even worse when you get further apart in the price spectrum.

but even if, if you have the right power for it it will still sound good

yeah definitely, a lower priced sub can sound great. but in general, the more money you spend (as long as you aren't going for like fad products, looking at strict numbers on the sub), the better the system you're going to end up with. all in all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. same thing goes to the sub owner.
