Stuck in Park, need to get out of my garage ASAP

You can bypass the brake/gear lock by turning the key to either on or run position...but not start, then just pull the lever down out of park.

It is something like that... I am not sure that is 100% correct, but it tells you in the owners manual. Grab yours and check for it. I think it's towards the back.

If your hubs are in 4wd, it could be binding the system. Lift one front tire off the floor, put it back down, and see if that allows you to shift. If not, try the other front tire.

This happened to me. Turn the key into the on position (not running) shift into nuetral and start up. Then shift into drive. Check your brake interlock fuse. I think it is one of the small ones. I burned mine out and i had the same problem. except my truck was sitting halfway out of a garage when it happend

Doh! It wasn't the brakelight switch.. it was one of the wires to the brakelight switch was slipping out of the crimp. Must have happened yesterday when I had someone standing on the brake pedal as I used the come-along to winch someone out of a snowbank. New crimped end, rerouted auxilary wiring, all is good in my kingdom! Total spent under $1 ... I had pictures of replacing trannies, etc when it first happened!

Thanks to all for suggestions, boy am I glad how easy of a fix this was.

All's well that ends well. Glad you got it going!

Umm, isn't a Cavalier front wheel drive?

Even so, this is VERY DANGEROUS.

Yeah a cavalier is front wheel drive. If you read the very first post you would know he is talking about a 4WD truck.
