straight axle swap

Jesus Christ..... another Dana30 advocate. Look I'm all for using a D30 if it suits your need, but trying to make it an axle that it is not..... well, I don't know why people do that.

For starters... if you're buying an EB44, and putting it into your wheeling rig to run stock, you're an idiot. The D44, be it EB, Waggy, F150, F250 is better than any D30 you can get, period.

Cheaper to build
stronger, in all fashions, LP or HP.
hub/wheel bearings
easier to hi-steer

Also, you talk about upgrading from a D30 to a D44 not being a real upgrade. These trucks didn't come with D30's, therefor you're not "upgrading" from a D30... you're choosing a D30 or a D44. 10 out of 10 times the D44 is the better choice. Some people just don't want to be patient and wait for the deals to come across, which is fine, because the D30 might work out well for them. Still, even in a jeep with a D30, the 44 is a significant upgrade if you cannot afford/find 1-tons.

I wheeled with this guy quite a bit when we were stationed together, and I can assure you a D30 would never survive under this ZJ

depends how you wheel most guys have no issues open with 35s on stock shafts and a good driver. I have a dana 60 in my truck now and see no reason for a D44. Built up they are barely as strong D60 stock.

Grabbing the popcorn now. I love D30 arguments :icon_twisted:

Seriously??? Do we really have to have this same retarded argument over and over again

it was a discussion of putting a d50 in my ranger...then a discussion on the differences and modifications to a 50 to make it a 60. nows were lowering standards to a d30 haha

I literally forgot this was the D50 thread. I thought I was in another D30 thread.:icon_twisted:

carry on.

All I wanna say is, swap in whatever your wheeling/driving style will need so that you can get back home.

im swapping in a d50... maybe a d70 front i now have my eye on...but for now d50/d60hdFF or d70hdFF rear. i would love to do a 70/70 combo thtd be a bad ass axle come for the road and trails.

A D70 front would be huge overkill for sure.

No such thing, if my front 60 doesnt hold up a custom 70 or 14 bolt front will be my next axle. Plus 14 bolt fronts are the new thing. So a 70 front would be awesome, plus with a simple trim it will have the same clearance as a 60.

I am talking about the D70 front out of a GM 4500. The kodiaks came with them in them way different than the old dodge ones has huge 1550 ujoints in it. They are beasts. Seems like way overkill for most people. I just have a plain jane D60 for mine I think it will be plenty strong for anything I throw at it...Most people who blow D60 are doing something stupid...

I know they 70 your refering too. I wouldnt use one because they have very limited ratio's in the HP 70 and they are also $$$$. I can build a d70 for less then buying one of those anyways and use all my 60 parts minus the gears and locker. Im not worried about breaking the 300m RCV shafts, just the front Gears in the 60.
