Str8sixfan's painfully slow 2wd to 4wd SAS project

Not much of a fan of G2.

care to divulge a little? Based on friends you know? Personal experience? I just jumped on them as it appeared in my price range (approx $125 for the gear set) and I figured it would be a little better quality than most sets of gears I was seeing on eBay: Motive Gear and another brand who's name was never really mentioned by the seller.

So I just found out I can sync my discover card cash back bonus amount to my amazon account $1 for $1. So looks like I ought to be able to get a 3.73 and up carrier by the end of the month, meaning by Aug 1 I should have the gears installed in the axle, meaning I can start piecing the thing back together next month. Then I hope to start welding on brackets and such soon there after.

Picking up a 3.73+ carrier Thursday through craigslist. Might have to use my discover cash back on a heavy duty diff cover I've been eyeing on Amazon.

Why is this? My G2 gears were perfect to set up and are quiet as hell. I'll stick up for them any chance I get. Granted, Yukon is better but I dont like Richmond or Motive as they are known to be noisy gears.

Sorry, i just now got this message. Haven t been on the computer much lately.

I installed a set of G2 gears for chriswilkins30, they were like every other gear set I've installed, Their master sets are not the best, had to give hell to customer service because they didn't package it correctly, they put 2 inner pinion bearings in the kit and didn't credit or refund anything saying I was on my own sorry.

My buddy that owns getbentkustoms highly recommends the Motive, especially for the Dana 30. He used to work for Dana years ago, he has also visited the Motive plant and seen their manufacturing process and says their processed the same as Dana with a 5 axis milling. The G2 are only 4.

I delt w/ 4wheelparts.com during my gear swap. They put a kit together for me and I couldnt have been happier. Their master kit had timken bearings and national seals.

hmm so a mixed bag of results. Well, we'll see if my install kit works out. Hopefully I'll be the tie-breaker in a positive direction. It hadn't been opened by the guy I bought it off of eBay from.

Well at least it appears there's evidence out there for Motive gears being reputable. Good to know for the future.

Picked up the carrier tonight, should have the pics up tomorrow. Hope to throw the ring gear on maybe sunday:icon_bounceblue:

Let the reassembly begin!

Anyone know if I should put my spider gears in first before the ring gear, or can I put the ring gear on first with no ramifications.

It will be easier with internals in first but doesn't matter.

Yea, 6 of one, half dozen of another. Keep up the good work!

I kind of figured it didn't matter, but then again you don't know what you don't know, so I figured I'd ask to be sure :icon_thumby:

Thanks guys!

Not a real update, but got arrangements with my friend from church to help me set up my gears. Just have to decide on a date.
