Anoyone know the stock tailpipe diameter on a 88-96 300 powered F series?

Somebody does. But it's not me. I would guess 2.5" . But thats purely a guess.

That was my guess too. I was hoping 3 inch but thats pry wishful thinking.

Yea I doubt they used 3". I would assume 2.5 as well.

Reason im asking is my 97 F250 is going to need a muffler soon. I want to give it something with a growl and found a flowmaster system i liked...but it was a bit quiet at 400+ bucks.

It was a 70 series big block muffler with a 3 inch tailpipe.

I wanted to go maybe with a 60 series. But ford had to be stupid and use that single in/dual outlet muffler with the two tailpipes on the 351/460. The 300/302 used a single and i figured if i got one for a 150 extended cab the hangers and shit would line up.

The Powerchoke used a 4 inch pipe.

Just use a 2.5 (or whatever it is) to 3" adapter. :dunno:

I can do that yes. I think im overthinking it....a tailpipe 1/2 difference pry isnt gonna choke it.

Right now i think its dual 2 inch. I always overthink exhaust cause its expensive and you dont truely know the sound till its on.

A 300 would have had a single tailpipe no more than 2 1/4, 351's got the dual tailpipes that I thought were stupid. I'd rather have a bigger single tailpipe. A 2 1/2" single system should be more than adequate for a 300, that's what I have on my 351 Ranger and my 13 second, 302 Mustang. Think carefully before putting loud exhaust on an inline 6, maybe consider a turbo muffler or a stock muffler for an F250 with a 460 but that would have dual tailpipes.

Im considering the 300 tailpipe for my 460 to do away with the stupid dual pipes and to put on a flowmaster to replace the holy factory one.

I suspect that would work fine, the farther from the engine it is, the less effect restriction has on power. A truck 460 probably spends most of it's time at lower RPMs, anyway. My son swears by Flowmasters, I think they sound like hollow tin cans but they do flow well.

Ive been listening to clips on youtube. The super 44 sounds real mean but according to the loud chart its like two steps above open headers. The 70 series was a bit quiet get so im thinking a 50 or 60 will suit me.

I dont want it to be obnoxious....just enough to get some good growl.

I had a Flowmaster 50 series that my son gave me on a 81 Cougar behind the old 302 from my Mustang, it sounded good once I welded an 18" glass pack into the tailpipe to soak up the tin can sound.
