just wondering if it is possible to hook up a sub to the stock head unit in a 2011 ranger. its great and all, the new truck, but it needs more bass.

thanks.

You'd probably be better off upgrading the head unit as it isn't very powerful. I don't know if the factory HU has pre-amp outputs (betting it doesn't) which you will need for the sub.

It can be done, I did it in my 2000 Ranger until I upgraded the head unit. I'll admit that I'm a little out of the car audio scene anymore - just haven't had the time or money to play with it for the past two years, so I'm not up on the current crop of amps.

But I do know that the Rockford Fosgate amps used to come with a speaker level adapter. What you did was tap into the wires for the rear speakers and run them into this connection on the amp. Worked pretty good too. I ran a small 200w rms amp that I shoved under my seat and a couple of 12" Rockford Fosgate entry level subs (used to be Punch Z, then it was P1). I used to irritate my one buddy who had a bazooka amp and Alpine subs with Sony Xplod speakers and head unit. My stereo (bone stock plus the amp and subs) was louder and clearer than his setup.

Then I upgraded to an 800 watt rms amp from Rockford Fosgate. The birth sheet that came with it said that it would put out 915 watts rms. Bridged that bad boy down, and wired up a set of 4 ohm subs so it'd be pushing them at like 1 ohm with 915 watts of power. Upgraded to a higher end Pioneer head unit and loved it.

Line out convertor(s), amp, sub, assosiated wiring and connectors

alright cool, cause i like the deck in it. it sounds good from mid to high but the bass isnt there. plus the satellite radio is a nice feature. so what do i hook the signal wire to?
