Sticky Shifting (Auto Trans)

98 Ranger 3L Auto Transmission has a whirring noise when accelerating and it kinda sticks, doesn't slip and gain rpm. Almost like I was driving with a clutch is what it feels like. from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Checked trans fluids it's got plenty and good color. No smell. Donno what it is.. only 117k miles

Any recommendations on what it could be will be appreciated.
