Alright, did my body lift a while ago, I need an alignment before I throw my 33's on.

Problem, steering wheel is upside down. Anyone that's done the pay body lift knows the steering extension only goes on one way. Mine would only go on with the steering wheel upside down.

Now, since it's been a while since I did it I can't recall I I turned it clockwise, or counterclockwise . Shop needs to know so they can do the alignment and get it right side up, properly.

I've lifted the truck off the ground to take pressure off the tires and checked to see if I had more turns I the wheel one way or the other. Nothing. 1 3/4 turns each way.

I've taken the column trim off to see if I could tell by the spring, cannot tell. It looks the same no matter how I turn it.

Any ideas? Tires are here this weekend, kinda wanna get em on since it's snowy/icy now and my bald tires up front ain't doing to good in the turning department lol.

Why not set the alignment then just pull the steering wheel itself and fix that? Or is that what your saying only goes on one way?

Well, the steering shaft extension only goes on one way, and the wheel itself only goes on one way to.

But I figure out which way it has to go to be centered. (Right side up and center of clock spring) so it's all good.

They will turn the wheel so it's straight, then adjust the alignment so the tires are straight.

You might have to recenter the clock spring. After that it doesn't really matter which way you went.

Here is the process.

Centralize the clockspring.
Hold the clockspring outer housing stationary.
Depress the clockspring locking tab to release the rotor.
NOTICE: Overturning will destroy the clockspring. The internal ribbon wire acts as the stop and can be broken from its internal connection.

While holding the clockspring locking tab in the released position, turn the rotor counterclockwise, carefully feeling for the ribbon wire to run out of length and a slight resistance to be felt. Stop turning at this point.
While holding the clockspring locking tab in the released position, turn the clockspring clockwise approximately 2.25 turns. This is the center point of the clockspring.
Release the clockspring locking tab. Do not allow the rotor to turn from this position.

The numbers on the picture correspond to the steps.

I don't have to do any of that. Center with the wheel straight is centered on the clock spring. A-ok.

The only issue is the fact to get the steering extension on I had to rotate the wheel right.

This tells me the previous owner had something wonky done. Guessing during an alignment. So if they put the steering wheel straight, then adjust the tires to be straight, everything will be perfectly centered.

This thread isn't needed anymore.

Wow lol. So a totally unexpected $510 later my truck is done......

They ended up grinding the steering extension so it fit with the wheel right side up, never informed me of this or asked for a go ahead before had, they took 3.5 hours to align the front end, and they had to balance my new tires twice before they got it right. Wtf.

That's not cool. Around here you wouldn't have had to pay that one.

PA state law says ALL repairs must be approved by the customer unless someone else (the shop or a warranty) is paying, and if the estimate isn't within 10% of the final bill the customer only has to pay the amount approved.

Also, sounds like they didn't have the wheels on the balancer right, unless they were doing RoadForce. It's pretty common to have to spin a tire to get good road force numbers.

Yeah I'm not to happy. Won't be getting anything done there anymore. Aside from oil changes till February when my engine warranty runs out. (Required to have oil changes done at a certified place for warranty)

Their loss. The amount I drive I go through parts fairly often. I think in the past two years I've owned the truck I spent easily 5 grand at the dealer. That's not including oil changes. Which happen every month.

There's one thing im happy about, getting my truck back lol.

Dang, you need to move down here. I have a fairly open side-work schedule these days and I do dealer-quality work a heck of a lot cheaper.

Haha nah,
I'll stay up here where there's lots of snow haha

Lucky dog.

I love snow, but I hate cold. I wish we could have a foot of snow fall and lay on the ground while it was 60* out.

I love snow. And cold.
I'd much rather cold than heat.
Can always put more clothes on, but there's only so much you can take off.

Heh, that's the problem. When it's cold out I want to bundle up in coats and blankets and such and just stay put.

When it's hot out I want to move around because the heat builds up around you when you sit still.

Plus I am right next to two of the garage doors at work. I get a nice breeze in the summer and a freezing wind in the winter.

Snowmobiling keeps me pretty warm in winter.
Working in cold does suck though.

So I retuned for the bigger tires, and it's a tiny bit off. I'm comparing the trip odo to my gps unit. Truck after 10 kms is showing .1 km farther than GPS. I know it's not a huge amount. But it's enough to bug me lol.

I'm foggy brained right now, but I think I nerd to increase the tire size a tad with the tuner right?
