Steering wheel keeps jerking back and forth and it's scary to drive

Hello all,

My steering wheel jerks right and left when I slightly turn the wheel. I'm afraid it's going to make me lose control if I don't get something figured out. It also won't return to center after negotiating a turn unless I physically turn it. I've checked power steering fluid and greased all the fittings on the steering linkages. I need to get this taken care of immediately, but I'm not sure where to start. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Mine refused to return to center also........it started getting stiff when making turns.......the adjusting screw was screwed in as far as it would go over the years.....

Since the pressure lines was worn out & leaking, I bought a good manual steering box from the salvage yard and did away with the power steering stuff....but I don't do any off-road driving/no need for a P/S box or pump any more....
