Howdy All,

My Steelcraft bumper is showing surface rust already.

Thoughts on a refinish? Paint? Brush-on "Undercoat" of some type?

Thoughts?

Raptor coating works good. But really powder coating is the best solution for long term resolve.

I would take the bumper off and repaint the whole thing after giving it a good surface prep. It's the only way you are going to get the paint to match.

Paint match? It's black.

Sandblast and 2 part epoxy primer. I believe it comes in black too. If no epoxy then oil base paint/primer.

You will be surprised how many different shades and finishes are are in black.

I'd strip it and puff can it. Redo as required.

I am not a powder coat fan for bumper stuff. One rock ding and rust spreads like wildfire under the coating which is a pain to strip.

I'd use something like monstaliner.. something with a hardener. It can either be sprayed on for a smooth finish or they supply textured rollers for the traditional lumpy bumpy truck bed coat finish.

Sandblast and powder coat or sandblast and coat with bedliner.
I assume it's powder coated already but get it done better than the manufacturer did.
I live in the northeast where every aftermarket bumper has big scabs of rust within three years.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the finish. Not quite 3 years in a non-salt environment?

I'm looking into the above options. Need to find a place that can do the sandblasting locally.
