Stealth Ranger Build

Looks good.

In pic #2, you'll see what the other guys are talkin about. You have room now, but imagine what will happen once you engine is in place, you've made an exhaust, and the ibeam approaches the bump stop. I guess you'll need to make the exhaust REAL tight, or maybe mod the header now.

In this one, you can see the hole in the clutch fork I'm talking about, I recommend using the one to the left.

ENGINE IS IN!!
i got it sitting where it needs to be. next problem is i gotta make my fan a pusher now cuz i have a half an inch between the water pump and radiator, and the intake is against the firewall. but overall good progress today.

do you have the rad tucked into the rad support? If you don't, get the rad in there and you'll gain the room you need. The way it is now, it's pretty close to your FEAD and that rad could get chewed up easily. The FEAD I use on my truck is from a Bronco(longer than the one from a Mustang) and I have tons of space with the rad tucked into the rad support.

the radiator is too big. its back as far as it can go. i had to notch the frame rails a bit. cut some plastic off the radiator and lower the mounts to make it fit. i just about got the space i need for the fan on the other side. a little more cutting and i should be good.

Get yourself a 91-94 Explorer rad. You can buy these for about $40 all day long. That rad fits well. Sometimes it's better to just go with what works instead of reinventing the wheel.

thats the same as the stock ranger one, and i didnt think it would cool enough, plus my fan wouldnt fit it. i got the one i did cuz it was a little wider, its a 2 core and the fan fit perfect. and i cant return this one since i cut it up to make it fit.

Did your truck originally have a 4.0L in it? More than likely you had a 2.0, 2.3 or 2.8. None of these rads will do. A 4.0 rad will cool a 302 no problem at all. I've had mine running in 30*C heat with no problems whatsoever.

it had a 2.3 and the radiator was 18x18. i looked up the radiator for the explorer and it was the same thing.

Ain't near enough clearance between the collector and the axle there. You've only got about 3" clearance at best to make an elbow. Those, from what I can recall about the 89500's, hang even lower. Noticed the Pete in your avatar, that yours ?

no that picture was something i came across a while ago. i hope one day down the road to be able to build myself one.

:D I'm lookin to buy one here in the next couple of months.:icon_thumby:

a "monster truck" one or a regular one?

looking for a working truck. Not a toy. Had one 20 something years back. Never thought I'd want to buy another, till now.
