Starter turns over but no crank or start 91 ranger 2.9L

When I try to crank my truck, the starter will spin, but it doesn't turn the motor over. When it doesn't turn over the motor I just turn the key off and try again; it will usually crank after about 5 tries, but this morning it didn't. I have already replaced the solenoid, and it seemed like it helped for about a week but could be coincidence. Is the Starter gear not engaging the flywheel? Is it an electrical problem? Ir sounds like the bendix on your starter is hanging up. Unless you are handy with rebuilding things and know where to get the parts, the best move is to just replace the starter.
