I have a '84 Ranger 2.0L, the starter is shit.
But it is also monsterous. I'm wanting to use a starter from a newer truck, they are smaller and lighter.
Wiring the thing is not a problem, automotive wiring is my thing, I can make anything work. My question is mechanical wise, whats the major difference, in say a '95 Starter. The bolt pattern I know is the same.
Or will I need to use a newer flywheel as well?
These are the ?'s I have, hopefully someone can answer.

bolt right on,some of then you will have to change solinoid wires.

The gear drive on the newer starter is offset, where the '84's gear drive is centered.

the permanant magnet starter bolts right on.

It's only the difference in wiring that you need to deal with
