My truck starts right up and idles fine. I can drive it for a little while and it runs well. Once the engine temperature gets up to about 180 degrees my truck begins to sputter then stall. It stalls mainly when i come to a stop. If I park the truck then and let it idle it stalls again. I can park the truck for an hour and let it cool down and start it back up and it will run fine again until it gets warm.

I have the revised heads and there is no oil in the coolant or vise versa so i know the heads are not cracked.

my guess is it seems like something in the ignition system

Is your truck the A4LD trans? My truck did the same thing to me today 3 times and I parked it. It's not cool having it die in traffic like that. I'll let you know if I figure my issue out. Good luck!

yea mine has the a4ld transmission too. i have no idea what is wrong tho because i had the truck for a year and it ran like a dream until yesterday.

same sh*t

yeah I'm having some issues w/my 88. Just randomly dies on me after it's warmed up. But it also has some other issues, black smoke and loss of power after engine is warm. Anyone else have those also. I too would appreciate any help offered.:bawling:

Same here

I've got an 88, 2.9 mated to the A4LD doing the exact same thing, anybody figure it out yet?

HAve your TFI (aka ignition module) checked.... they are KNOWN for heat related issues that cause your symtoms.

also double check electrical connections, as well as grounds and check for vacuum leaks.

test

is there a test for the tfi you can do yourself???

86 broncoII

mines doing the same thing . good luck ive been workin on this prob for 2 months now.so if somebody can find a solution. please help.

still waiting

nope I'm still waiting my exhaust blew up ontop of this issue so I dunno if my cat. converter is clogged and that could be causing these issues or not. Anyone had any luck with the TFI, i replaced mine but still got issues. :bawling:

If your cat is plugged it will glow cherry red. Ive never heard of one blowing up because of it, but I suppose its possible.

My '86 2.9 with the ,same tranny does the same;runs when cool but dies when hot, also shifting probs, back and forth between 2nd &3rd .No probs when cool.Going through various sensors and vacuum lines, found several disconnected.Someone said check sensor or module connected with distributor.Any ideas? Sounds like tfi.Great tutoral on link.Thanks.
