stacked cats on my 88... replace???!

do know what would happen to jim if trs got caught up in a lawsuit breaking federal laws with something as simple as a catalactic converter plus why do u think they are moderators they keep the law and order

you guys really are kinda anal about that stuff for some reason

The law is the law, and we do NOT condone breaking it any way, shape or form.

you dont have to break the law by giving un biast opinions or providing facts
like fact A ,your truck will be louder without 1 or 2 cats

ok why not

We don't discuss illegal activities. Period.

why cant we talk about it we understand its wrong and theres abig big fine if u get caught but lets be fair and discuss the pros and cons some of us run off road a lot and who says it illegal to talk about it:icon_thumby:

Seems like you all got off topic a little bit. I personally would replace it the only differance is I would build my own. Wether or not it makes a damd bit of differance is debateable but I can tell you when you take down the old it will be heavy and all full of shit, your new one will weigh about half as much.:icon_welder::icon_thumby:

and i feel like i should at the very least get a restoration of power since it's basically a filter correct?

Not to be a dick or anything, but NO, actually. A cat is just that: A catalyst. It changes the molecules that pass over/through it without changing itself. So, it isn't filtering out the air, it's changing the chemicals in the air. Because of this, cats don't really get dirty, they just start to get old and wear down a bit. So, yeah, replacing your 21 year old cat will probably lower your emissions, but you won't notice a difference in performance.

After reading through everybody's bitch fest I am gonna asume you are going with direct replacement do to lack of fabing capabilities. Buy a Magnaflow OE direct replacement and it will bolt right into place. If you want your truck to remain quiet just get a stock cat back system. I keep saying Magnaflow because 1: they are the only one who sells OE high performance cats, 2: there the cheapest out there for what your getting.
It depends what you want spend after the cat, stock replacement from Auto Zone will just bolt right on, or get a Flow Master series 44 cat back system just to piss off the neighbors it's up to you as far as that goes.
Yes, the cat is basicly a filter that will fill up with shit after a while. When you replace your cat you will notice a signifigant differance in weight. Basicly it takes the gases that did'nt burn and, I don't want to say so much filters them, but more less collects then. This is way when your O2 sensor goes you may start to hear a small backfire in the cats. They are collecting what has'nt been burt due to the O2 sensor thinking it should be dumpin' fuel into your motor. All just my opinion and everybody can tell me I'm full of shit, that's just how I feel about it.
Later, Redeyed:dunno:
P.S. I ain't knockn' anybody running off road, by all means cut those babies out and run it like you stole it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:headbang:
