I bought a used lift kit from a friend and he said he's unsure of the lift height. The springs with no load measure 18 1/2". Any one have an idea of how much lift this will provide.

They will give you 4" of lift.

I'd venture a guess they're 5.5" lift springs, but it's not really possible to know for sure by their unloaded length (softer springs would be longer for the same lift height, stiffer ones, shorter, etc)

Damn it, I was hoping they would be a 6" lift. I bought all the drop brackets, springs, and drop pitman for $100. I guess I got a good deal for the price. I guess I'll see what happens when I install it.

Post a pic of the brackets

ok I'll post some in the morning

I love how the springs are multi colored, can anyone tell anything about the lift from these pics?

Yep.
IIRC, that's what Jim had on TRS1 at one point, and that has the same two holes on the one bracket.
Not the worst kit (coils aren't as rock-hard stiff as some), but close...

You'll need to lower your bumpstops when you install it, otherwise that bracket with the drop plate on it will bust a hole through your front differential housing (particularly if you have the D35).

I don't see a drop pitman arm in your pic, be sure to get one if you don't have that already.

If the powder coat under the old spray paint is blue/grey, it may be a BDS as well. My brackets looked pretty close to the same as that IIRC.

Yeah, Ive got a drop pitman arm, I'm going to be buying a 91 extended cab thats going to be my dd so I'm just going put this on that with some nice wheels and a body lift. In light of me buying this newer truck I'm going to turn my 89 into a trail rig with d44. So I dont really care about offroad reliablility with this kit, I'm just going to use it to make my truck look pretty.

I had an early Skyjacker kit that I took off my Ranger. Looked like either the D35 was self-clearanced or was very poorly clearanced... We already put the Tuff Country brackets in, Skyjacker stuff is long gone now.

The Tuff Country kit we swappd in (still using the Skyjacker stiffazell 6" springs) looks to have a little more clearance by the diff.

I hope to eventually replace all this with a D30...
