Split-Pin Front Brake Calibers on 94 Ranger

"CALIPER PER PER PER"
GOT IT GOT IT GOT IT.

I haven't gotten to this project yet, hopefully wiil get to it tomorrow. I'll post my results when I finish.

I did the brake job today. The "split-pins" were a piece of cake to get out once I got them started. The rubber piece in between the two metal outer pieces collapses when you squeeze from the outside of the metal pieces with pliers. I used vice grips to squeeze them together and then a hammer and slotted screwdriver to punch it out.

Replacing the "split-pins" was also a piece of cake. I squeezed the ends together to get it started in the hole and then punched it through using a bigger hammer and a small double-headed hammer as a punch.

I bought new 4 "spit-pins". They were less than 5 bucks each. I replaced the brake pads and repacked the bearings. I didn't have to anything with the rotors because they looked good.

I actually liked that pin design a lot compared to bolts but i'm no engineer so I just work with what they do to the trucks...

pcollins,
I know what you mean. After doing the first wheel to learn how to get them out and in, the second wheel went fast. I did a different style caliper on another manufacturer a couple weeks ago. One that uses Torx bolts. It was a PITA getting the bolts out.

You can get those split-pins out real fast with minimum PITA.

Those pins might seem like a solly design, but I've always found them easier to remove than a seized bolt.
