Any one here not using the splash shields? I'm talking about the soft rubber pieces located up in the front wheel wells. Looks like they kind of protect the engine bay. My passenger side one is coming apart and not staying in place and the drivers side one is only half there. Any issues with not having them there at all?

Your motor will get dirty A.F

I'm going to address my splash shields this spring. I wanted to do it last year.

The driver side shield is only on the front... pretty short in fact. The passenger side is the full length shield.

My plan is to buy two passenger side shields and use one on the driver side. They look the same on the front so at the worst I will cut it down to fit. But I read somewhere that the full shield can be installed... it will help cover up the ABS pump and everything else in there.

They do help keep the dirt out. My passenger side shield ( I think they're called "inner fenders" is removed. But the sheet metal piece I made to hold my air compressor blocks a lot of the mess. My driver side is mostly intact. I shortened it so my tires won't rub on the back part. But still need to take some more off.

My drivers side one fell apart years ago from removing it every other year to do my PCV valve. My engine is still clean, but I don't offroad. I'm referring to the small flappy rubber pieces held on with push pins, not the actual inner fenders. I have no plans to fix them. If I we're one to enjoying driving through mud holes I would probably reconsider though.

IIRC, they are to keep water from getting in the engine compartment. Water on electrical items generally isn't good. Yes, pretty much all electronics are protected but it doesn't hurt with the extra effort. Generally, alternators don't appreciate water in them.

So the metal part is the actual inner fender. The plastic part is the fender liner and the rubbery pieces are splash shields to clear up confusion. (This is part of my job, lol).

The splash shields came apart on my Green Ranger long ago. I didn’t worry about it, I don’t really end up in the mud with it. For whatever reason they seem to get really stiff as they age and start to tear apart if you have to move them. The ones on Dad’s Ranger are tearing some, but they are in better shape than the ones were on my green one, those were stitched with zip ties until I gave up on them. ;missingteeth;

I'll probably forget that. But thanks. It's just the plastic parts that I consider optional for the most part. I did have to trim fender sheet metal to clear my tires.

Fun fact, the OBS (Old Body Style) F-series trucks (80-96ish) the inner fender was part of the outer fender, they were all one piece.
