I got new speakers for my 92 ranger and wanted to replace the speakers in the door they are all cracking and sound terrible. where are the clips that hold it in place located and what needs to be removed, the arm rest, handle, window crank?

There are 3 screws plus one in the window knob which you need a pretty small torx for. There's one in the arm rest, one in the upper left hand (by side mirror except inside) and one on the bottom left of the door, all three are regular screws and the order doesnt matter that you take them off in. Then you pull the front part of the window knob off so you can see the center hole which the torx is down (I actually used a small allen wrench because i didnt know it was a torx till i took the first one out. haha.). Then once you have that off, you lift the door panel up and towards you a little, you'll have to wiggle it a little bit but it's pretty simple. I dont know if it matters if you have your windows up or down, but mine were up and it was really simple, i'd never taken off any door panels before today and i took both mine off, removed my speakers, and put wiring harnesses on for my speakers which arrive tomorrow in about 40 minutes. Good luck!

not hijacking, but what door panel mounting locations/methods the same for which years?

i have an 88, and have taken off a corner on one of my panels to see how they work, but can't even get that ONE back on.. so don't want to take it apart to see that i can't get the rest back together too

so basically, how do you get a 1988 xlt 4x4 door panel back on?

The 88s had a thin cardboard like panel with plastic clips that held them to the door. These clips stick in the door much better than the panel, so you probably pulled the clip through and now can't get it back on. I'd pull the panel the rest of the way off, pull the clips from the door, slide them into the panel and pop the panel back on. I did it a few times on my old 88.

ya the panel came off of a connector, i thought there were prongs on the actual door that the red (in my truck) panel stuck on...

thanks for that i'll try it some time soon (i like to just take stuff apart to see the different parts)
