I have arching issues at every spark plug. I ohmed out the coil pack and it is the same as a new one, I bought new bwd custom fitted wires and tried another set, and I got Bosch Platinum Plus spark plugs and it is still arching.
The valve covers slowly leaked oil over the years and it is a little oily and grimey. Would that cause a bad ground?
Should I try different spark plugs?
:dunno:I`m stuck!

Arching - as in you can see it arching out of the wires at night?

Yes, I can only see it at night. It is happening at the boot where it snaps on the plug. I am having a random sputtering problem while I am driving.

Hi,
I am the tech manager at Autolite spark plugs. Try a different set of spark plugs. If the are arcing from the wire boot to the plug shell, the spark plug is resistant to fire for some reason. The easiest thing to do now is try a different set of plugs first. Let me know how it goes, I am happy to help further if needed.

What a coincidence. I was going suggest going to an Autolite or Motorcraft plug (made by Autolite). I've never had good luck with any other brand. I have the Motorcraft Finewires in my F150 and the Autolite Finewires in my Escape. Very good plugs. Here they are side by side:

I just replaced the spark plugs with motorcraft finewire platinum and it is still doing the same thing. the problem is in the bwd wires. When I opened up the hood, some of the wires were glowing the entire length of the wire. I talked to the guys at Oriellys auto and they can give me a refund for the Bosch plus and bwd wires. What wires do y'all recommend on me getting?
I'm done with bwd, that is my second set in 4 months.

Ford Motorcraft through Rock Auto. Probably be less or not much more than the BWD wires you got at O'Reilly. www.rockauto.com

Use the search function on TRS or Google and get yourself a 5% off code.

You will probably also notice a big difference in the price you paid for the plugs.

Get Motorcraft. For normal, original, non-high performance applications you just can't beat OEM.

I don't see what engine you have, but I have also noticed that TFI and Duraspark 2 systems don't seem to like platinum plugs a whole lot.

Thanks for the input! I'm not sure about the ignition system. I have a 4.0. I will see about getting those motorcraft wires!

I dont care what anyone says Autolite's are not the same as Motorcraft's
I have ran both rangers i get about 10k to 20k out of Autolite's and Motorcrafts last 50k+

If you have a 4.0 you have an EDIS, those seem to handle plats fine.

Good news! The Motorcraft wires worked! I can finally drive it! Thanks for all of your help guys! The 4th set of (correct) wires finally did it.:yahoo:

I thought this was comical. When I was getting the wires, the manager at a (un-named) auto parts store told me that the problem could have been coming from switching spark plugs around to different cylinders and my problem is something other than the wires......:icon_rofl: needless to say I went somewhere else. I would have ordered from rockauto.com but I needed to get my truck back on the road asap! That site has some smoking deals!

Ya'll are pros!:icon_cheers:

Them irish bastards.....

....... well, that's the only store around here (besides the dealer) that would have Motorcraft wires.

Interesting theory Ron. I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. They are made by Autolite (actually Honeywell).
