:annoyed: Once again my truck burnt up a starter. It will spin but won't engage( hit the ring gear) I've replaced that damn thing 2 time in 6 months. I've had it with this damn thing. I've spent enough money to do a complete motor swap and then some. What do I do?

The starters you've put in.... are they remans, JY units, etc.?

All of them have been newt hats why I don't get why it's doing this.

Maybe your flywheel/flexplate is off? But then why is it burning them up? Hmm...could just be a string of bad luck, btw those new starters don't have lifetime warranty? :banghead:

Maybe either your key is sticking or the solenoid...I once had a solenoid that looked in good condition but it had a short that caused the starter to keep running...and when they plunge out into a spinning flywheel you get things going south rather rapidly...

However, you can usually tell because the starter makes quite a racket when engaged...

Other than that...I've bought new re-manufactured units that crapped out way before their time...

take it out and clean it, try it again. my 2.9 had a very small rear main leak that just killed starters but a quick shot of brake cleaner would fix them right back up.

i had the same problem. the alignment stud on the new one was too small, allowing the starter to move away from the flywheel. every couple weeks i had to loosen starter, push it tight toward the flywheel, and tighten it. would work for awhile, then act up again. finally took it back to napa, and got a new one. working fine now. napa no longer carries that brand starter. hope this helps

I've tried everything you guys are talking about. So should I just save up and buy a motor or just keep replacing starters?

What about learning how to fix a starter ? It's not that hard to repair-

Sounds like the bendix is going out. If that's the case it will probably test fine at the parts store. Throw a fit and make them replace it. If they won't go to another shop and get one with a lifetime warranty. Takes time to replace, but you aren't out any $ after that.

Could be a solenoid or you need to shim the starter. The flywheel can be off just enough to cause an issue. If you can't correct it you will need to take in to a shop and have them do it for you. Don't waste anymore money on starters. Get a good used one and go to a shop and have them check out what is happening. Hope this helps you out, Bro.

Would it be going out this soon though?
I'm a fan of lifetime warranty parts.
That's the thing the. 2 out of 4 were lifetime the other were the ones that had the lifetime warranty.

Shim the starter? Never heard of that. And yeah 80 bucks a starter is gettin kinda old.

....why would you buy 2 lifetime warrantied starters but not take advantage of the warranty...? :icon_confused:
