This will be a thread documenting the build of my dad's Jeep.

Before someone says it...yes, I realize it's not a RBV. I read the rules of the "PreRunners" section and it doesn't say RBV or not. It said "Please don't post anything in this forum unless you're sure it is 2WD long travel prerunner related." I'm sure the Jeep is 2WD and I consider over 20" to be long travel hahah I just thought it would fit better here than the "Non RBV" section. If a mod wants to move it, feel free.

Here's a little background story: I bought the Cherokee and never had the time to do what I wanted with it so I gave it to my dad. He wanted to put it on 1 ton axles up until I bought my Prerunner and he thought it was cool. So the plan changed again and we took it to Lenger Racing (where my ranger came from), it's getting custom twin I-beams and radius arms up front as well as rear four link. It's behind schedule so Ryan (owner of Lenger Racing) is going all out this week and he is delivering it across the state to us Saturday :headbang:

Basics are:
King remote resi coilovers front and rear
600 HP 7500RPM small block
2 speed powerglide
Ford 9" with 4.56s and a spool
33" General Grabbers
18-20" of travel up front
24-26" of travel in the rear
Corbeau seats
Full cage of course

Here's some pics of the progress:

Ryan asked my dad "Do you realize what this thing is going to do?" :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

Odd seeing TTB on a Cherokee.....:icon_twisted:

Still cool looking though:icon_thumby:

I sure hope the radius arm mounts aren't done, single shear = Death

I hope we remember to mount the drivers side coil over too. That would be real bad. Lol these are progress pics. It will obviously be double shear

looking like a decent start so far. XJ's make great prerunners. Have you checked out the Jeep Speed stuff yet?

I like what I'm seeinf so far. :icon_thumby: That's a pretty fancy looking oil pan, what motor is that?

I have a little. This won't be raced. It's just a toy. I've been joking and telling my dad this is his midlife crisis. He said at least it's not a Camaro hahah

The motor is a small block Chevy. The pan is baffled and larger capacity. The motor seen in the pic is just for mock up along with the power glide trans. I'll see if I have a pic of the engine in my garage.

sounds like a fun toy! wanna share those deep pockets?

My pockets are empty lol otherwise my ranger wouldn't have a 2.3. He's the reason I'm doing the 5.3, so I can follow him hahah

Here's some engine pics I had.

Everything was balanced to 8000RPM. He's going to "play it safe" and limit it at 7500 hahah I honestly can't wait it's going to be ridiculous.

Make sure the uni body is braced and caged or you will twist it up badly with that kind of power. I had a XJ with a 4.7L, which is a 4.0L stroked out and after about 2500 miles of normal driving and trails I had twisted the body enough to get 1/4" gaps at the doors. It was on 37's and locked up, but still, high speed is about the same if not worse than rocks.

Rock sliders, like the ones made by these guys ( http://detoursusa.com/ ) will help strengthen the body up considerably. I saw he already welded in the front frame supports/re enforcements, but sliders and a proper cage tie in will make wonders.

Full cage, uni body plating should do the trick. I have a stroker Cherokee too so I know all about twist. My hatch no longer opens lol

Nice sarcasm, pretty funny. But you should see some crap people put on the road, just makin sure you don't half-ass it
