Some weekend flex

Your cable setup is interesting. You are buried in that thing though, dude. So it makes sense that you cling to it I suppose.

lmao

I "cling" to it because it has a superior ride on the highway and of course it's ability to travel over terrain much faster than a similar rig with a straight axle can (no it's not a full-out speed build, but it does well for what it is). It also is not my first rig build to have TTB, so to say I'm "buried" in it as if i had no choice couldn't be any more inaccurate.

Anyway, the TTB gets me every place I need it to, it's completely stable in doing so, and that is really all that matters.
You've already admitted that yours "wasn't as modified" as mine, so that right there says you never did to yours what I have done to mine... so you simply don't know how mine drives. And FWIW, "highly-modified" is not really entirely accurate either... Yes, it certainly is modified, but no more so than any other lifted TTB would be maybe outside of the limit cable I have on it. Sure, several items I built for it or modded myself such as the radius arms, coil buckets and the cable, using better springs from a different vehicle application, etc., however every part of it is bolted to the vehicle the very same way the parts of any other lift kit would be (i could easily return the suspension to stock if I had a reason to).

(Edit: I did ream the knuckles to put a beefier steering setup on it, so I guess that part isn't returnable to stock)

So you're free to think that a solid axle is that much better, but until I personally start to see these "problems" in my TTB the way you say, I have no reason to think about swapping it. So until then we just have to agree to disagree.

So with that I'm going to hand the thread back to the OP.

Thanks. I will. But not because you gave me permission, rather because I have experience with both and the solid axle setup has proven to be much better.

Just so I reciprocate, you are free to continue to tell people that they should invest time and money in their ttb setup even though it would be time and money much better spent on a solid axle conversion.

I like my TTB for what I do I go over a lot of road that's washboard head size rocks half sticking up stuff like that.It seems to ride better than modified solid axle Jeeps slightly modified like mine.A lot of people love driving over piles of rocks the bigger the better it looks to me like the solid axle works better there. In my opinion if your going big SAS it.If your into exploring the woods leave it TTB.

WOW!! This thread blew up, sorry I haven't been on to reply. To be honest both of the main contributors have made very valid points within the discussion off ttb or solid front axle. As for me, I have got a lot of the same argument within the jeep guys I run with. All along i have built this knowing that I was going stay with the ttb to prove a point that it can and will wheel with them. However other than re-gearing the ttb, I won't be putting much money into it further than that. I see the point to spend the money where it's going to last long term. I won't put anything other than a selectable locker up front in either axles. My mane thing is, I want to keep it streetable. One of my biggest enjoyments is the parade to the trail, on a trailer you don't get that. This rig has been through the referee and is smog legal for CA. So for now the ttb is going to stay but if it can't hang you can be sure that more changes will be made. Thank you for all the great advice as always!!!

Are you still in CA? Would be cool to see your rig in action along with mine.

I'm goin sas on my rig only because it's got a d28 if it was 35 then id leave it alone also I already have the d44 and matching 9in with lockers in them my buddy who has a b2 his d28 is crap but he wants to go d35 but his setup its totally different than mine I have a v8 in mine he's still got the 2.9 and its surprisingly hard to find a d35 on c-list ttb but there's plenty to be dug out of the bone yard so that's what well end up doing I think was hoping just to come across one but no such luck...and post up more pics of your b2 man I like that thing wanna see more of it

Also here's a great link to more info on ttb setups I actually learned a few things from it might help those who are seeking more info on them just puttin out there I'm not bias on either....I just like wheelin

I'm in So Cal, yes (a little north of LA). Your location looks more north/central Cal...
I occasionally get up around the Shaver Lake area trails... Maybe you want to hook-up sometime around that area? or ? (I don't know yet the next time I'll be up that way though).

As for spending for the long term...
It was back in 2004 when I first built my BII (the axle that is under it also spent 3 years under my Ranger on 33s too before it went under my BII). I mentioned earlier I don't do the absolute hardest-core rock crawling there is (no real interest in it), however I have regularly pushed it through what I suspect most would still call very difficult terrain, and it has held up exceptionally well (far better than I originally had planned even). If you are having some doubts about your D35 (or you think you might take your rig toward "truggy" status), then I would say it may be better to get it over with now and sling a D60 under there... because that really is where the next step is.
(what Kirby says about the D35 I would say about a D44. As correctly stated earlier in the thread, a D44 doesn't offer much over the 35 since it shares the same weakness, the axle u-joint (the bigger brakes of a D44 can be swapped onto a D35 too if you're having brake trouble). A D60 is a far better axle in every regard if strength and long-term investment are your goals).

That is someone's cut & paste of this thread:

The thread has had some updates since then. :)

Much credit to you for your responses, as I have always thought your rig is very capable from previous posts of yours. the Shaver area could work for me, but same as you, not sure when.

Appreciate that.
Well keep in touch then. Shoot me a PM if you ever get down toward my way at all (and I'll do the same as well)
