Some people piss me off......

you should of asked her if she knows how much oil it takes to make the plastics that her car is made of? or if she likes plastics, rubber, paper or toilet paper because last i checked it took lots and lots of oil to come by any of those products directly or indirectly...........

Or how much oil it takes to produce food and get it to market. Ain't no solar-powered combines, tractors, or semi's yet. In my experience those folks mostly think that our food all comes from Papa Ingles on "Little House" plowing behind an ox. They're not necessarily stupid, they just have no concept.

If I wanted to drive a Kenworth around town there shouldn't be some snot nosed person sitting at each station telling me how wrong I am.

If I pay for the thing, keep it road worthy and insured then you had better not tell me what I can and can't do with it.

If someone says something I am going to tell them where to go. It's rude to start shit with someone you don't even know, about something you know nothing about.

My F-250 gets between 11-13MPG. But you know what, I am still making payments on the thing so I am going to drive it. Why shouldn't I. I won't be using any extra gas, I will just use up what she is saving.

When her shit breaks down maybe she will think about it once she sees the big truck pull up to tow her. I bet she won't say anything to him.

The issue is of necessity. Do you need an F-250 to accomplish what you need to do? If the answer is yes, then great. If no, well, I'd rethink the above statement. I think it is ridiculous when I see a mother driving a long wheelbase Suburban with one kid in the car to go to the doctor's or wherever they are heading. I mean, couldn't a smaller vehicle fit the same need? Just because you CAN afford it does mean you SHOULD drive it. We have a real status issue in this country.

Also, I see a lot of poorly maintained full size vehicles in my area that people drive and never fix, and they shoot out black crap that makes me cough. I have a right to walk down my street without being covered in soot. Like you said above, at least keep it maintained.

I almost gave up my truck and was going to buy a Subaru with the trade in. However, when I got a job at my shop, I was asked to start hauling transmissions and engines to and from yards, tow cars, etc. I found my need for a small truck again, so I kept it. Honestly, I really think it is about necessity.

Well most of the time I don't use it. It stays parked. I drive the B2 and get about 23-25MPG.

When I need to tow the RV, I drive the SD, or when going on trips such as this weekend. Newer vehicle, I like to think it's more reliable.

But my point is even if I don't need the truck I have the right to own and drive it!

To be fair, some people can't afford a Suburban AND another small car for short trips. Maybe the soccer mom needs a Suburban for some tasks, but doesn't load it up with crap every time she uses it. My mom is the pretty much the only one who drives the Explorer now, and she loads it completely up about twice a week. Other times, it runs around town totally empty.

I think that's fine. Better to tow with a vehicle like the SD than with an underpowered smaller vehicle which would probably get worse gas mileage in that situation.

You do have a right to own it and drive it, I'm not saying you don't. But again, just because you have the right, doesn't mean you have to exercise it. Can and Should are two very different things. You're situation seems like you need a SD truck...no complaints here. My issue is with the above moms that really don't need a vehicle of that size to accomplish what they need to do.

I could honestly go get a decent used Super Duty tomorrow with what I've saved + a trade in on my Ranger. However, I don't because I don't need it. Would it be cool? Hell yeah, I love the SDs. But I look at practicality and the rising cost of fuel and then ground myself back in reality.

Great thread!! That article on the pirus was great too...

Its like that al gore a-hole thinking he's doing the Lord's work. BS!!! The guy is an asshole. You've seen those emails stating his power bill on his personal residence is 20K a month (or whatever, big bucks anyway)? Also, the bastard flys a PRIVATE jet all over to give his speeches... Put your money where your mouth is, al gore, leonardo dicaprio, and the rest of the hollywood people that take up a cause because they are bored to death and have nothing else better to do- When you start riding a bicycle instead of taking the limo, flying in public planes or busses, and turning off YOUR air conditioner, THEN come talk to me. Until then, I don't want to hear it.

Most of these people are HIGHLY mis-guided even though their intentions may be admirable. And a lot of them are HYPOCRITES.

And in case you're wondering, I conserve fuel/energy in any way I can- not because I care, but rather because I'm a tight-ass.

Yeah, but then that self righteous witch would probably give him a sermon about why he should be vegetarian & should let the cattle run free.

At which point I would walk in, go to the food in the station, throw a cheeseburger in the microwave, grab a piece of jerky, pay for my stuff, and walk out and stare at here while enjoying my animal products

No harm 4x4RangerGuy.

I don't think even with airbags and helper springs the 4.0L could handle this.

A 2.9 or 4.0 might have problems, but a 2.8 would play with it:

A lot (not all) of people who buy hybrids feel like they are doing some great deed for the world when they buy their cars. The fact is that they are still burning gas in an internal combustion engine, the materials used to make the components in their cars are hazardous, and disposing of their cars is hazardous. It could be argued that a four cylinder Ranger is better for the environment since it requires fewer resources and hazardous materials to produce, and it is easier to dispose of when it has reached the end of its useful life. People do not want to look that deep into it though. They would rather buy a hybrid, preach to everyone that they are saving the world, and drive in the HOV lane.

I have never had anyone go after me for my vehicle choices, but then again I live in an area with a lot of trucks. The Explorer is beat to hell and was only $950 anyway, so it would be hard for someone to argue with it. Besides, it gets reasonable low 20s gas mileage. The Ranger is comparable to a lot of cars as far as fuel economy and it is a LEV.

My F-150 is a LEV too, I really don't know what that means. It gets about 10mpg in town and a shy 20 on the highway, nothing spectacular IMO.

85, I can see the tires of another truck beside the ranger.. Nice try.. lol

i know my lift kit and tires are wasteful but everyone has hobbies that hurt the environment, thats life.in rusty's case though i'de be very tempted to see how good of an RTI ramp her nice little car makes.maybe she'd keep her ideas to herself then.

Actually I think I have posted it before, it is my dad's 1980 F-350 that happened to park beside me while I had my air shocks down.:secret:
