I've been reading up on a few different engine and axle swaps, and for right now I'm thinking I should do the axle swap on my truck first and then do the engine in a few months.
What I don't want to have to do is swap axles multiple times, or worry about beefing stuff up too much in order to avoid breaking it before i even start souping up my engine I'll be swapping.
Right now I have an old OHV 4.0, which is somewhere around 160 HP and 240 tq's.
But what I want in the long run is a 4BT with somewhere around 300-400 HP, and that would put it somewhere near 700-900 tq's.
Do I need to put a full 1 ton axle underneath that?
I was looking at a D44 TTB front, modding it with equal length beams, and making it have a crazy amount of travel. Then for the rear I was looking at a 10.5/10.25 or a D60.
Some of the threads have cast doubt on running a half ton with that many horses, and especially the tq's a 4BT puts out... makes me somewhat doubt it.
Basically, does anyone have some general guidelines of what axles are suitable for what hp/tq/tire sizes?
Forgot to mention I'll only be running 35's on my ranger. Most likely never larger than that.
TLDR:
4BT 350 HP 700 ftlb
D44 TTB front D60 rear? Or get something better? (Disc preferred, or able to upgrade to disks later)
EDIT : Forgot to mention I'm wanting to 4-link the rear to lay down the power off stoplights and other foolishness, and coilovers on the front.
