Well I got the sound system all in and it works great. The only problem is that I'm getting ignition noise >_<. (most noticable in the tweeters). Crutchfield suggests i get RFI sparkplugs and cables. Is there any other ways to solve this issue (and yes, i tried switching grounds as well.)

rockford/fostgate 6 1/2" components, rockford/fostgate 10" sub, sound storm F1200M mono sub amp, sound storm 2.200 2ch speaker amp, and pioneer DEH 1100MP HU

did you run your rca cables next to your power wires or anywhere near them?

if so, you need to seperate them, usually run power down pass side, and rcas down the drivers, or down the center, under the carpet.

if not, youll need one of these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8179_Monster-Cable-MPC-ISM-201XLN.html

yeah RCA's run down the same place the powers do. looks like I gotta take apart the dash....again :bawling:

The RCA's are only for the sub though, but it's my tweeters that are making the noise (running speaker amp off of speaker wire, sub amp off of RCA). Does that mean I have to run the cables for the speakers down the other side as well? And does that include the wires going from the HU to the amp, the amp to the speakers, or both?

edit: Also, to help clean things up a bit, I wanted to run both amps off of RCA. But I was told that the RCA is only for low level sound (sub), and that the speakers would have to be run off of the high level wiring. Is this true? It would make the wire relocation much easier if I could run both off of RCA's, I already have the splitters and a 2nd set of cables.

The international rule of thumb is the power goes down the driver side door, the signal (RCA) goes down the middle, and the speaker wires go down the passenger side door...

without a center counsel, so the middle wont work too well. I can run power down the drivers side, and RCA and speaker down the passenger side. This shouldn't provide too much interference, right?

Down the middle is the best...you may have to pull the carpet up and run it under, but that is the correct way to do it...

No carpet, layer of rhino liner on the bare floor is all I have.

question:

Can I run both the sub amp and the speaker amp off of RCA cables? I was told that the high level wiring was for speakers and low level for a sub, but then I've seen people use RCA's for both. So now I'm somewhat confused. :icon_confused:

It would make re-wiring much simpler if I can.

Yes, you can run both amps off the RCA, providing you have a crossover either inline (electronic x-over) or built in the amp....run your speaker wires and RCA together down passenger side, and power down driver...

It's got a built in low pass crossover ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17625_Sound-Storm-SSL-F2.200.html )

I hope thats right. I'll just try pulling the RCA's from the sub amp and switching them to the speaker amp tomorrow and see if it works. I'll know for sure then.

Thanks for the help!

The x-over on that amp is low pass only, meaning it will not work for highs, so turn that x-over off...do you have a link for the sub amp??
SVT

That amp has the high pass you need, but does not have RCA outputs, so its useless to you....Here is what you need to do...
1. Get 2 pair of RCA splitters (one male to two female aka Y-adapters) and plug them to the HU, then run two pair of RCA's (one to each amp) and run it that way. Put the sub amp's x-over on low pass, the high's and mid's amp's x-over leave off. Dont run your bass level more than about 2 and you should be good....
2. Get a 2 way electronic x-over, mount it near your amps, one set RCA to the x-over, then one pair to each amp respectively, and adjust the x-over accordingly :icon_thumby:

After hearing all of that, I think an extra 10$ for the new speaker wire I'll need to run the same setup through the passenger side isn't so bad.

the ignition noise, does it affect only input wiring from the HU to the amp, or does it also affect the output wiring from the amps to the speakers?

"Ignition noise" is RF interference that is carried by power wire ( not just the amp's power wire, but any wire carrying voltage with a certain amount of amperage) and is picked up by any signal wire. This is why it is so important not to skimp on the RCA wires, you want to get a good quality set that has good insulation and RF protection. That being said, even though speaker wire does carry voltage, it does not carry RF interference from the altenator as the rest of the voltage carrying wires in the vehicle does :icon_thumby:
