Solder steel to aluminum?

I could have sworn I had an account on here (meh, probably got pruned since I don't think I logged in since some time in 2004).

Anyways, I'm the friend with the japanese POS.

Here's a picture of basically what needs to be done:

and a post that explains the concept, but doesn't go in to much detain about alternate methods of attachment aside from saying JB Weld should work with spacers

I have spacers on my engine, but someone saying it should stay cool enough to not fail as opposed to knowing heat's not an issue as would be the case with soldering or similar is my big concern. This engine is built for over 7000 RPM and I take it there regularly, so there is significant high-temperature exhaust pressure which I assume doesn't change much as it flows through the EGR system. I don't want to be borderline with JB and then have it fail under load.

My roommate has the same car with the stock motor and thus an EGR-equipped intake. When he gets home I'm going to check the temperature of the EGR path on his intake, but until then feel free to speculate/share knowledge on whether JB or similar will hold and/or what else might work.

actually the forum was moved to a different server and all of the history was lost in the process. it was like starting a new forum except it already had a significant member base.

That ain't nothin. The motor I used it one twice--plus on several other different motors--was a 7,000+rpm 1970 351C.

I also used it when I put a 1971 460 in my '64 Galaxie. In that case I ground the air pump lumps out of the ports, hammered a threaded rod in because a threaded rod has surface area, and filled the holed with JB Weld. Then I smoothed the fills.

Also, on my old '68 VW bus, I burned an exhaust valve. I put a rough grind on the seat, lapped the valve to the seat after the JB Weld cured and drove it 100 miles home, then swapped out the head.

You are talking using an armored vehicle to deflect BBs with what you need.
