Well, I was having a swell saturday and i decided, i should wash the truck while its nice outside, and in doing so i also washed the engine bay down with simple green and sprayed it down and about 10 minutes later i started it up to find that it is misfiring horribly. So i checked the usual, MAF, TPS coilpack, etc and everything seemed alright. I unplugged the MAF and it didnt help, it isnt throwing the CEL. Obviously something got wet that wasnt suppose to get wet, and ive been having it sit for about 2 hours now and it isnt a whole lot better, the misfires are also systematic, seems to be misfiring on 2 cylinders. Does it sound like i fried something or does it just need to dry out well? Oh and it is a 99 XLT 4.0 5 speed, Thanks for any advice!

Well I don't know if you fried something. But when I clean my engine bay I you this stuff from Black Magic for cleaning engines. I spray it on let it sit for awhile then take a pressure washer to the engine and clean it up. I do this at the car wash. I dont put any plastic bag over anything to keep from getting wet. Starts up fine and runs fine afterwards. The only problems I have is the Idler or Tensioner Pulley squeaks but that lasts about a day then goes away. But I also get that problem when its cold outside too.

Replace your spark wires.

Misfiring on a 4.0 after washing the engine bay is extreemly unlikely to be anything else.

Sorry to jack your threat, sort of.

I washed my engine out with simple green a few weeks ago as well. I used a power washer (on a light setting) and soaked with simple green for 10 min, then rinsed down with power washer. Now after sitting for a period of time (more than 2 hours) it hesitates when starting. Almost like the fuel pressure isnt there. If I cycle the key on off two or three times it fires up no problem. Once it has been started it hesitates for a few seconds and then goes to a perfect idle and runs like a champ. just the first few seconds. I had covered my altinator and intake filter when i washed it out. I was looking at the fuel pressure regulator and nothing looks out of the ordinary. I may take it off and take a look at it.
