So I just busted my Oil pump gear on my ATV

The manual said to use a penny and wedge it between the gears to loosen the centrifugal clutch shaft nut(left hand thread)

Well the penny would not hold and kept going through the gears, so I used TWO pennies, and the gear busted. :annoyed:

So come to find out this is the Oil pump gear that busted in half.

Did I damage my oil pump, or will I be okay with a replacement gear?

Prolly should be fine with new gear. Next time you want to jam the engine, take the plug out , run the piston down and stuff a few feet of clothesline into the cylinder. Bring the piston up 'til it jams. It is known as the rope trick.

If the pump still spins freely you should be ok by just replacing the gear. Just don't over-tighten the crap out of it or you'll break the gear again LOL.

Installation won't be a problem because of the one-way clutch, I would just put the transmission in gear and that should prevent any turning..

Yes, just don't use any other means of keeping things from turning or you may break the gear.

Meh this clutch job is becoming expensive fast yo!

I had plans to replace the manual clutches, but it looks like my centrifugal clutch was ruined by "motor oil" SOMEONE used the wrong oil.

Nice, so I got like $300 bucks into this clutch service!! ..and If my centrifugal clutch housing is warped there is another hundred.

This is a reply to show pictures of the centrifugal clutch, the grooves are still intact but there are chunks missing from the pads.

I guess I will replace the pads. :(

Looks like you got a big mess going on there. What ATV is this on?

Exactly, a very good ATV in my opinion, love the low range gearing.

So it seems nobody(in other ATV forums) isn't replying to me. I'm going to reuse the primary drive unit that the centrifugal clutch fits into.

Is it okay to use a Impact wrench to tighten down the manual clutch basket nut, and the crankshaft nut? I used an impact to get them off since I bused that gear, the nuts are like 1" and 1/16.

I wouldn't try to use the impact to tighten them as they should be tightened to a specific torque but you could certainly use it to snug them down, then double check with a torque wrench. You don't want to break anything putting it back together.

Can't remember which Suzuki they were but I repaired 2 Suzuki Quad Runner 4x4's last year. I liked them, just would rather have a side x side for the utility use that I need an ATV for.
