I have no idea how I did this, but while removing the harmonic balancer, it snapped in two pieces. One piece is still on the crankshaft, and the other fell off into my hand. Any ideas on how to remove the rest of it?

hi, i have never worked on this particular engine, however something in that picture just does not look correct. above the broken part it seems to have an extended "finger" part over the "round" what i am guessing to be the backing of the harmonic balancer. if so is this piece holding back the balancer from sliding forward? and this made the break? if you can get a puller onto the front ridge/lip you might be able to get enough bite to hold and turn a puller? or can you get a thin jawed puller in behind the lip? i wish i knew more about this engine as i have never seen a break like this. How did it happen? and made it lock up like this?

cheers and good luck

I got it out! Grabbed a pair of gear pullers, and ended up yanking it off of the crank. It was just seized solid, not sure on why. I already have a replacement for it, so it’s all ok.

Just an FYI. They make harmonic balancer pullers that you can pick up cheap at harbor freight. It also comes with the adapter to reinstall it properly.

Thing is that is supposed to be just a slide fit... problem is there's no lube, put some grease (any grease...) on there before you put it back together..
