Smoking

One day my breaking had and weird feeling to it so a week later while i was changing my tires i took a look at them. My front passenger side disk had a nice crack in it and plenty heat marks. Im not usually hard on the breaks, maybe when lights turn yellow... so anywho i had the rotors changed out and the tired old bearings. the same day on my drive home it started smoking really bad. I figured it was just the mechanic forgot to get the stuff off the new rotors. He didn't seem to bright, so now im thinking its something else as my pads wore away quick and when i washed it the other day after a 5 minute ride home the water made them smoke hard meaning they were really hot. Also sometimes from a stop to slow acceleration i can hear my breaks squeking when im not even touching them. Anyone have any suggestions? maybe time for calipers? btw its a 97 with 150k km on it

When replacing a caliper, it is foolish to NOT replace the flex line.

Unless you KNOW its age, I recommend replacing it as if it were OEM from the factory.
There's a REASON why they tell you not to let the caliper dangle from the flex hose.

An easy way to tell if the hose IS bad (acting like a check valve and not letting pressure release the pads, making them drag) is when you push the piston(s) 1/2 way back into the caliper, take note how hard that is. Then, crack the bleeder (which is the proper way to do it anyway, but I digress, again) and push the piston the rest of the way.

If it is so much easier that you can't believe the difference, your hose is bad. If it makes just enough difference that you can barely tell, your hose is still good.
