Small Cabover camper too heavy??

I ran one just like that camper on a 79 Datson Kingcab. Air shocks made the sway worse. Installed a set of overload springs and it rode good. You just have to use common sense when driving. It is a lot of weight up high. Drove it from coast to coast several times and through the moutains in Airizona at least once a month for years.

One thing you could do if you plan on using the shell a lot is to take it down to your local spring shop (with the camper on the truck) and have them build a custom spring set for you. A friend of mine had a '92 Chevy 1500 and did this. He took several trips cross-country, and up through Canada and never had an issue with his srt-up The tade-off is that the truck will ride like crap when unloaded.

A good place to start is ask one of the local truck menchincs where they would get their springs done.
It's a shame you aren't anywhere in New England because there's a place called Donovan Sping that is the BEST shop around.

id like to get one for my ranger, yes the CG gets changed majorly. we had a pickup camper for a full-size for years. you just learn that its a whole new rig when the camper is in. and get a measurement on the overall height and tape it to the dash to remid you its there before going through the bank drive through. now on my rear suspention i have a set of coil overloads clamped to the rear axle housing, they circle the bumpstops and dont actually touch the frame when the bed is empty, 300-400 pounds then they contact. rides good empty but has more suspention when loaded. the only better thing to have would be a air bag setup.

I'd KILL for a camper like that.

Then again I have Explorer springs in my truck the thickest
swaybar I could find and I routinely move 1500-1700# of coal
in my truck...
