Ok basically copy and pasted from another post. I'm getting skipping at light throttle and at highway speeds, u can't really feel is but can hear it in the exhaust. I'm also getting hesitation when I take off, but doesn't do it all the time. Also when I pat the gas and let the clutch out it feels like its flooding. Disty, cap, rotor, coil, and plugs are fairly new. Also she's durasparked so there's no computer crap

Ok I reset the float level, it was a little low, and reset the idle air mixture. I figured out my throttle plate wasn't closing enough to where it hit the stop, so I added a stiffer spring to my dual throttle return bracket. I set the idle mixture after that. Timing is 10 degrees with vac advance on ported nipple on carb. It seems to like that better then vacuum t. I have the stock 61 jets in it. I had 59 in it awhile back but plugs showed a lot of white so I went back to 61 jets and they are a little black, but not sure if its from reving and playn with the carb. Also when I rev high and let go I get a puff of white smoke, but it doesn't do it at wot with a load. Coolant is nice and new looking and the oil isn't going where its not supposed to. Except in the driveway lol. I have a 180 stat and temp guage reads 190 no higher(aftermarket guage)

Gas mileage is shitty(about 11 mpgs.

Yall think its a carb problem, ignition, or something else? Idles great and drives ok(besides the hesitation sometimes around 1500-1800 rpms(I'm guessing, don't have a tach)

Time to put my freshly rebuilt 2150 with metering block on? My intake manifold leaks oil, and when I sprayed carb cleaner around the vc the idle changed. Think that's the problem? Other then that I couldn't find any vacuum leaks

Thanks guys, I hope to get this ironed out before an upcommin trip

Don't know,I have same problem with skipping at cruising speed, but not all the time. Don't know if it is timing, vacuum leak or carb. I run #53 jets with nice tan color on plugs,20 mpg if I keep my foot out of it,also I'm running 15" tires.

I may have time tommorrow to delve into it,what with 77 degrees forecast for our region, might be the time to do it.
..
I lean toward vacuum on yours.

If I come up with anything I'll let you know.

Well I'm gonna put the 2150 on it and get some new plug wires. And I'm putting a full gasket set on it so maybe I can figure it out

Try setting the timing on 5 dbtdc turn the idle air jets out for the highest vacuum or rpm and put the advance back on the tee for manifold vacuum. Your jets are a little big is it a 1.08 venturi carb. I tried every imaginable setup and this one seems to be the best for mine. I think the biggest mistake is tuning the carb you want around 3/4 of an inch wet float level and by turning the idle air screws between 3 and 4 turns gives it a better idle and supplements the high speed jets so you dont have to put as much pressure on the skinny pedal. The vacuum advance on manifold vacuum will allow you to close the butterfly down enough to get the air fuel closer. try this

1 put the advance on manifold vacuum (the tee) plug ports on the carb
2 is the wet float at 3/4 inch from the top of the bowel to the center of fuel
3 turn the idle air screws 3 turns from lightly seated
4 start it and let it get up to temp
5 unplug the advance and plug the hose, time it to 5 or 6 btdc hook it to manifold vacuum
6 set the idle stop at around 800 rpm
7 adjust the idle air screws for the highest rpm or vacuum pressure
8 set the idle stop where you want your idle
any time you adjust the timing you need to redo all the carb settings but this the best way I found to dial in my truck I`m getting around 16 to 18 mpg and she starts right up every time not bad for a 28 year old motor.

I tried the 5 degree thing and adjusted the idle mixture and it ran like shit. Seems to like 10 degrees with the vac on the carb. Ill try it again on the t, but it has no mid range power like that. How do I figure out if its 3/4 float level on a holley 350? I just have the float set so it barely trickles out the sight plug. Do I need to lower it? Right now the idle air screws are about 1 turn out. Any more and it idles like shit. Any less it starts to stall

I slacked off my timing and readjusted carb,my truck runs better and no skipping at cruising speed.

Dealer, loose the 61 jets and get down to the lower 50's,I run #53 jets and have nice tan color on the plugs and better mpg. Take a giant leap and you might be happy with mpg and performance,I only live 100 miles north of you so this setup should work. Let us know.

Have the holley 350 cfm on her right now. I tried 53 jets, way too lean, and 59 were too lean as well, so its not runniing that rich. I had the timing at 5 but didn't like it so I went to 8 then to 10. I had it at 12 before I went to 5. I think the 350 cfm is too much carb for her. I like the power she has on the highway but the drivability of it sux

Tw when it was running lean I had a lot of part throttle jerking at road speads. Skippy what carb are u running?b

I wondeer if I have a vacuum leak from the I'm. When I checked my plugs they were either white as shit or black as hell. Wouldn't see where one jet size would take it from real lean to rich

I had the same issue with white/black plugs and have a drawerfull of holley jets from 63 to 50. The 50 jets were no good,no power. I have 53 jets in it and ran the same settings as listed before for setting the carb/timing. My skipping turned out to be slightly over advanced timing and 3 minor vacuum leaks at the vacuum tree, cracked rubber block off caps. I don't need to tell you what Georgia heat can do to components under the hood. As you know the jets are cheap and easy to change.:icon_thumby:

Well I just put the 53 jets backin and messed with the carb some. Lowered the float just under trickleing out the sight plug. Last time I ran 53 jets I was 12 degrees timing. I'm at 9ish now. Haven't had a chance to drive it like that so maybe it will do right. All my caps are new on the vacuum t. I did figure out something. When I push the brake kinda hard the idle drops way down. Doesn't stall but almost. Could that be my problems? How can I fix that? Hat could it be, the brake booster? Also ever since I went under 12 degrees timing, I have my idle mixture screws about 1 turn out from lightly seated, before when I was at 12 they were about 3 turns out for highest idle.

Hope I can get this figured out, thanks guys

Ok I just went out and pulled the brake booster hoster hose off and held my thumb over it. The idle dropped and was smooth as ever. Doesn't seem to be the grommet. How can I. Tell if its the check valve or the booster. I've been hearing a hissing under the dahs when light braking, but when I push hard on the pedal the hissing stops and the idle drops
