Shop Truck

I mixed hardner in the paint so it did flash pretty fast.. Rain didn't hurt it.
But on the side note the Paint can instructions was 10-1-1... but at 95 degrees it was too thick. Valspar gave me the 8-1-1 mixing ratio... 8 parts paint- 1 part hardner- 1 part thinner. since it was a little too thick it striped and orange peeled a little.

Today was time to work on the drip rails.
This is what I started with...

After a visit with the hammer and chisel..a few minutes of high speed grinder with the cup brush I got it clean.

Those mirrows that your useing, are they pretty good ???

also are you going to put some seam sealer in the drip rails ???

Robert

Seam sealer.. like this ?
DSC00033.jpg

Now normally I use seam sealer that come in a caulk tube but this was in a can and started to skin early. In some ways this is good since I use the stuff on floor boards mostly but I didn't get the gutters as pretty as I wanted so I let it set for a few days and run over it with a little sand paper and my finger... The Black paint in the pic is rust converting primer. I'm painting the roof White.
Started stripping the paint off the drivers side fender, I have no clue what primer they used but the paint didn't stick too well to it and the primer balls up in my 36 grit grinding disc. so I'm taking it to the metal.

The Seam sealer is still rubbery and strong smelling. so it might be next week before I paint the roof....
Today I finished sanding the fenders and got them primed, I wished I was using a fill and sand but I'll wet sand it one more time if I have to I'll prime it again.
My Ladder Rack is great for hanging fenders to dry...

One of the Hardware store in town is going out of business, I stopped in to buy sand paper on sale but I located some Acorn nuts, they had 3 left but I thought they were bitchen even at $3.79 a peice(Stainless steal)... I need to find them cheaper.
DSC00035.jpg

I will use them on the truck to mount the bumpers and other exposed things for a little bling.

The Mirrors on the truck are OK, not worth a crap for towing and hauling sine the mirror is only 4 inches. I have plans for something more retro/ hot rod with a 5 inch peep and a 6 inch round door mount round mirror. But for now the Peeps keep the Police off my back.

So I've been working on the house while I still have summer left and I got a retro stove for my wife. The truck is running like crap on the High way so I had to borrow a truck to pick up the 1948 Chambers oven...No Big deal right? This friggin stove has to be over 500lbs....yes thats another Ranger!

Last night I had the fenders out and I misted them with a guide coat of black to show off how ruff the Truck "LUMPY" really is, I had pealed sticker/ pen stripes off and I didn't want them to show threw. For you whom don't know since the vinyl blocks the UV from reaching the paint under neath the sticker it tends not to wash off and deteriorate like the rest of the paint so the paint will be harder and raised under the sticker. Sucks!
Well any ways heres the fender with guide coat...

Here is the fender after wet sanding with a 320 sand paper & a block, See the black spots those are dents.
DSC00040.jpg

I'm not removing the dents instead we'll keep them like badges of Honor for the little truck, I'm sure each one has a story! But to honest this is the way I got the truck.

Well there is another great idea that I'm going to steal and use on my little Ranger :)

Acorn Nuts

OK the other day I put another coat of prime since I sanded the crap out of the finders the first time. Wet sanded that and let it dry...rubbed that down with a brown paper bag to help clean it up and sprayed it black!
DSC00045.jpg

the paper bag is a old school way of cleaning the surface! like a tack cloth.
DSC00046.jpg

I keep hanging my fenders on my ladder rack, I'm sure my neighbors love the view.
I'm not looking forward to working the doors but I haven't found what I wanted to replace them yet.... the bed comes off this week!
DSC00047.jpg

Oh..the fenders fitted on the truck took a little longer than I thought.

Thats all I could do tonight.

FrankBoss

So I rinsed the dust and bird crap off and started to Chuckle!
It looks like I replaced the front clip with new sheet metal from the dent and ding store.
But it is looking better than before.
DSC00049.jpg

time to get to work.

FrankBoss

So today I was wanting to pull the bed and get ready to work the cab.
239b9e3c3a9a.jpg

it would be great to find a better bed since this one has SO MUCH RUST!
I was thinking If I could find one that had two gas tanks I could use the rear filler door to place my winch hook-up to assist in loading the truck bed.
d48b734971fd.jpg

Kinda cool with out the bed but this puts a damper on hauling for the week!
I'm very happy my little wife help remove the bed this time..:)

Now to find time to wet sand and prime!

FrankBoss

how hard was it getting the 6 bolts out???

I tried to remove one from truck bed, and it looks like I'll have to take a grinder to the heads.

Robert

Yeah they were nasty rusty bolts ( only a year old too) .. but I had to take the light bar and the ladder rack apart as well...so it took a while to get to the bed bolts. I used lock tight on everything to keep it together, I'm great full for the impact wrench.

I have some surprises for the roof and the new engine!
