Shocks on the motor?

I have a 1999 Ranger 4x4.

What are the shocks that are mounted on the sides of the motor? They are right above the normal suspension shocks? They look like they are leaking fluid out of them and need replaced, but I have no idea what they do or what they are called?

If they're the little ones on the frame not the motor, then they're just "band-aids" ford used to attempt to cure vibrations... FAIL. they can be removed with no worries

Thanks....I'm sure thats what they are. I will try and take a picture of them and post it to make sure.

That's got to be the one he's talking about. Funny thing is, i've only seen them on 4.0 Rangers. I thought it was weird as hell when I first saw the one on mine.

Yep. to my knowlede only came on 4.0 rangers and exploders

How have I never seen these?

I've seen them on a buddies 94 4.o ranger. And they are on a few explorers at a local rbv graveyard. Maybe some ripped yours off before you got a hold of it:dunno:

And yeah just on the drivers side

looked like it was just on the drivers side....

I always see it on mine and wonder if it really even does anything. And yes, its only on the drivers side

Look on the driver's side Mike. Right next to your upper shock mount, just to the left of it.

I would but my truck is currently 2500km away. Can anyone snag a pic?

My '91 had one. I had forgotten about it until this thread.

I don't think it's for vibration. It's more likely to slow down the engine's twist. Maybe for exhaust system life as the emissions system warranty is longer than the truck warranty.

Dang, what the heck? Go on a trip or what? I'll snap a picture tomorrow unless someone else beats me to it.

Not so much a trip but sort of. I'm in Calgary doing my 1st year partsman certification:D
