Remover my 1988 ranger manual shifter. Wondering if you can remove shifter arm from linkage. There's a c clip I took off at bottom of arm and trying to remove arm from linkage. Found a 3/4" CV boot im hopefully will cut down and make work. Any suggestions how to separate?

No one has ever tryed removing the stainless linkage from the shifter arm?? Looks to be a rubber insert. I've always got a response on this thread how to things. I dont see any other way to replace the rubber boot. FM-146 number on boot is 1md 727052

It has only been 24 hrs - on a weekend - asking about an older style shifter that not as many people have any more and parts are getting harder to find blah-blah-blah...

Patience please. If you have an emergency, please hang up and dial 9-1-1

That looks similar to the M5OD shifter. I've taken one of those apart, but it quite destructive. I just wanted bottom stub to build a custom shifter.

You might melt that rubber out with a propane torch and replace it with polyurethane from a skateboard wheel molding kit, when you're ready to reassemble. You might also ruin the shifter in the process.

I cut the one in my FM-146 years ago just below that rubber filled section and turned it into a stub (ground a flat and drilled/tapped for bolts). Used a shifter boot thing from a ZF5 and made my own upper shifter out of a piece of rebar.

I would try to use a press. I imagine that's how it was put together. But I have no real knowledge. If I remember I have an old transmission I can pull the shifter and try later this afternoon.
