SEMA 2008 - Tundra Dually

The big 3 better get their collective asses moving if Toyota builds that. The only strangle hold they had was the HD truck market. Looks like Toyota may be readying the final blow.

It's not all that bad. Has a big ass, even for a dually though. I agree that the blob shape isn't much to look at. If the imports are going to start on the Heavy Duty truck market I might like to see a Nissan Titan HD. Probably wouldn't look half bad.

Rumor has it in the near future the Titan will be a rebadged Ram... so in theory you might get your Nissan Titan HD with a Cummins, if they decide to make HD Nissan trucks (which I doubt, Dodge is more than a little proud of their Cummins)

Ford and GM are propping themselves up in overseas sales... where they are still like they were here a decade ago. Fullsize truck sales (which have been cut in half from last year) are a major blow, but not the final blow.

actually you might see the Nissan Titan HD in a 3/4 and a 1 Ton 4wd before that Toyota hits the market. The Tundra Dually is still a concept, The Titan HD is scheduled for production.

unless Dodge is bought by Nissan, Nissan wont be getting the Cummins. Dodge has an exclusive contract with Cummins until 2012.

Assuming Chrysler doesn't look to Nissan for an alliance so that Chrysler corp doesn't go bye bye. Of course, Chrysler could just go away making that contract void.

The government wont allow them to go under.

There are plenty of Japanese diesel engines available, like the Hino that the Tundra is using....they just need to be certified to US emission standards.

Which will suck for them (and all American diesel engine manufactures) when the new Tier 3 emissions go in effect January 1, 2009. I know the price of the fire pump diesels I am engineering/selling now will have their prices almost doubled.

2010 emission will kill the market though. And Nissan has a heavy Duty diesel. They make the UD truck line

They already met the standards. It was a selling point for them two years ago.

It is all speculation at this point, but judging how great the Titan sales haven't been (the 10 year old Ranger had outsold it by a large margin for quite awhile) it seems more than plausable that Nissan could decide it would be more economical to use somebody elses design rather than tie up one of their plants making a product not many people want.

I seriously doubt Nissan would do that. They would collaborate with Toyota first before consorting with us lowly Americans. They have been snobby lately. Now if Mitsubishi were to bring a full size HD to market you can bet it would be a rebranded Dodge.

Now I am an ass man, but that is not my idea of a fine ass - way too BIG . . .
