I listed some tires and rims on CL. Within a half hr. this woman calls and says she wants them. I told her that in the ad. I forgot to put that they were a ford bolt pattern. She said "I don't care I want them". So she told me she would call this morning at 8ish. I had to call her at 9.30 to see what she was going to do.

Meanwhile i have gotton 5 other calls on these tires. I kept the names and numbers in the order that i recieved them in case this deal fell through.

She calls me back at 10 and tells me she is trying to arrange them to be picked up. (She's from Ohio). So I wait ALL freakin day no call to say what was her plans.

This evening at 6pm I go ahead and call person #2 Tell him come get them.

It was'nt 20 min. later she called and was mad because i sold them already.

What do you guys think? Was I in the right or wrong?

Sorry for the rant.

dude ur good u did what you had to do and if she wanted them bad enough she could have put money down on them

you kept up your end of the deal with the 8 o'clock meeting and even waited to give her another chance .. you did everything right .. i sold a camaro on there once guy told me he would leave his house at noon and get here at 4, well i waited till 7 and had to leave and go out of town about 8 he calls and is totally pissed off because i left .. i mean what the hell people that buy from craigslist can be retarded

I'd say you did the right thing...I can relate to the waiting and wondering nonsense though...but I won't post the details because it's not my rant...:)

Coming from someone who has been in your place many times, I would not feel the least bit bad about it. People need to think about it...if you go into a store, would they save merchandise off the shelf for you? No way, I wouldn't expect them to either. First come first serve, every time.

That said, I have saved things for people before. One time I sold a laptop and the lady who wanted it (who I trust) wanted to wait a few days. Fine, whatever. I left the ad up and some guy called and got mad because I wouldn't sell it out from under her. I don't get people.

If she would have called this afternoon and explained what she was doing I would'nt have had a problem waiting. Oh well i guess i should'nt feel bad.

Done some deals on CL. 99% of the people that use it arent human. So I have to be very hard nosed and tell them what is expected and if they dont follow thru, deals off. I move on.

Tried to give away a perfectly good Ranger DuraLiner bedliner. 3 calls, 3 said they show, 3 no shows. Couldn't give this thing away.

Then I sold that very Ranger to the first person that called for that. Full price, no questions asked. Cash deal. That was the 1%. Very rare.

You did the right thing. Just be very clear what will cut them out of the deal.

There's no right answer. Normally I would have waited a day or two unless I needed the money to buy a fire extinguisher for some immediate use. But I do hate it when people aren't thoughtful enough to keep me informed. I generally tell them to keep me informed up front. I don't think the buyer often realizes how annoying it is to be in the dark about their progress and intentions.

You are perfectly fine.

There is only one occasion I would hold onto something, if they placed a cash deposit on it for me to hold it. Otherwise, I'll give someone ONE day and for the most part, they don't show, it goes to the next person in line.

The other thing I really dislike is when I put something up for stupid cheap and someone tries talking me down. I tried selling a 1971 Cadillac (as a parts car because I couldn't get a title for it, but now I have one :D) for $450, I would have taken a bit less if they had showed up just to get it the hell out of my yard. I told them to "show up and we'll see" They got iritated because I wouldn't outright sell the car for like $100 and someother things... This car was complete except for a radiator and one emblem. And this was even when scrap was ridiculous.

People are idiots, don't feel bad about it. If she really wanted them she should have taken steps to be more punctual.

I wouldn't feel bad. What if you waited another day for her before you moved on and missed out on the sale because the next buyer moved on. First come, first serve.

Time is money. She wasted both of yours. Lateness is a huge pet peeve of mine.
She may have never shown.
You're good.

People always want something, so I remove the part so it's ready to pick up and they never show, happens all the time. I just listed my BFGs on craigslist on thursday and the first call I got was on friday, guy showed up when he said he would and I dismounted them like I said I would and he gave me full price and didn't try to talk me down, one of the few good craigslist experiences.

i have stuff forsale on CL now. i got a few emails asking for questions, ill answer and wont get a answer back.... it pisses me off cuz i need the money

Whenever I get one of those emails i always Google the addy. that way i can see if it's a scammer (usually is) before i even open the mail.
