You guys have to try this stuff. Just throw some scrapple and pre-soaked golden hominy in a pan with a bit of salt and pepper, and cook it until it gets slightly browned.

It looks like dog food, but it's one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten.

There is good scrapple and then there's bad scrapple. Eat it in Lancaster county PA and its Mmmmmmm....

Eat it in Somerset and its, er, not mmm.

Excuse my midwestern ignorance, but what is either Scrapple or Hominy?

scrapple is the stuff they wont make hot dogs out of lol still can be mighty tasty!
hominy maze " hard corn" not the sweet corn you are used to that has been soaked in a lye water solution which softens it and gives it a wonderful taste!

Scrapple is one of those things that's good when properly made and seasoned
but is something you don't want to examine too closely when it's being made.

In the words of Otto Von Bismark: "If one would retain their respect for
either laws or sausages, one shoud refrain from watching either being
made"

Another thing that's really good is a New Jersey thing, that's been
slowly spreading Taylor's Pork Roll, sometimes sold as "trenton style porl roll"

but Taylor's is the original brand.

then there's Lebanon Bologna (nothing like "bologna" you are used to)
and it's typically made entirely from beef.

The "Smoked" lebanon will leave you with what some people call
"Barn fire burps" (if you like smoky flavors that last... and last...
and last some more)

But the "sweet Lebanon" tends to be a bit more user friendly
I think of it as beef candy:)

NOW that is the stuff. i wish it was available where i am. gotta go back there to visit grandma and stock up some time soon...

I had never heard of Scrapple until a friend of mine from Maryland told me about it. It has the consistency of spam, but it's grey, and it's made of the brains, eyes, hooves, guts, etc. All the parts they won't use for hot dogs or sausage.

I guess the traditional way to eat it is to slice it and eat it on toast, or to mix it with eggs, but he said to try it with hominy, and it's the best thing ever. Looks like either puke or dog food, but it smells and tastes like pureed heaven.

Hey, we eat scrapple here in east tenn. too. It's hard to find but can be found. I love it, my wife on the other hand wants to leave the house when I cook it! Guess we all can't be country. I'll have to try it with hominy it sounds good!

scrapple, hominy, grits, biscuits & gravy, fried eggs-WOW!! lets dig in boys!!

ok...looked on Wikipedia...made with the same stuff the wife's family loves....called Pressak. Can't stand to even look at that stuff in the fridge....

Eff that. I care what I eat. LOL

On opening day of every hunting season me and my friends make up a bunch of scrapple and scrambled eggs, and make some breakfast burritos...damn tasty at 4 in the morning, lol
