Over-all the Bronco did excellant! The lockers are amazing... I can't believe I ever wheeled without them! It almost made things too easy! :lmao:

now for the that cons of the trip:

Blew both front shocks.... need some tweaking with the mounts! Alot of down travel, but not so much up travel!
Steering box officially needs to be replaced along with a HD pump!
And I lost 1st gear towards the end of the trip! Any ideas on a tranny set up I should go for?

And now for the pictures! As with any wheeling trip you get lost in the wheeling and forget to take the good stuff! So my appologies for not having very many decent shots!

these first few are after a few runs through some mud! More posers than anything:

I like this picture here of Jayman.... not sure why... I just do!

Only managed to get me once in the mud... but thats ok:

Unfortunately these next few do not do the approach dustice, it looks worse in person! But you can decide for yourself. :headbang:

The next shot was taking at the top of a really steep and muddy hill climb! The kind that goes straight up with little room at the top before going straight down again!

17.jpg

These last two were just towards the end of the trail! Well a few miles towards the end! It ended up getting dark on us by the time we found the main road!

Without first gear some of the last hill climbs were pretty tricky! Good thing I had some low enough gears that 2nd worked out! Got a little nervous towards the end!

Anyhow... enjoy the pictures and please feel free to comment!

Cheers

Nice BII's that makes me want to fix my Ex & go have some fun

Looks like fun, both BII's look good. :icon_thumby:

Looks good Nemi, once you go locked you don't go back :icon_thumby:
Just needs a little more displacement now :D Go with an M5OD, a lot stronger than you FM145, and if you have the tranny out, it's a good time to get a 4.0 too, At least that's how I justified my 4.0 swap :D

Hahns,

Thats a great justification! I do plan on doing the 4.0 swap, but I'm just not sure timing is right!

As fro the M5OD, will it mount up the 4.0 and can I use my existing T-case? If not what would be a good pair on T-case that wont cause for alot of modifcation to make work?

And where can I get an M5OD?

Thanks guys/gals for all the comments!

Cheers

The M50D that Hans is talking about is off a 4.0 Explorer or Ranger 4wd. Your transfer case will bolt up to the M50D as ALL Rangers, Explorers, and Bronco II's have the same transfer case bolt pattern between the BW1350 and BW1354.

The 4.0 has the same bell housing bolt pattern as the 2.9. You should also upgrade to a 4.0 clutch, flywheel, and starter.

Thanks Engdept,

Any specific years I should look at over others? When I do this I'll most likely get the whole set up at once! And yes, it will be a great time for a new clutch and starter!

Thanks for the info!

Grab yourself either a '91-'94 Explorer or a '90-'92 Ranger 4.0. I would say get the whole truck so you have everything and then you can part it or sell it to a junk yard for scrap.

The one thing that will need to be changed is the tranny corssmember will need to be moved back and your driveshafts will need to be modified since the M5OD is longer (same length as FM146 and A4LD). Any 91-94 ranger or explorer will be a good donor.

Didn't run the waterfall huh? :icon_rofl:

Not even really sure where the waterfull is? Now I'm interested!

What variation of the M5OD should I expect out of that year? M5OD-R1? Or would it be wise to try and find an M5OD-R1HD?

Thanks for the feedback and comments !

Cheers

There is no need to find a M50D-R1HD. The M50D-R1 is plenty strong for a OHV 4.0. You can look in a '91-'00 Explorer with a 5 speed or a '90-current 4.0 Ranger for either a M50D-R1 or a R1HD. The R1HD's were behind the 4.0 SOHC's. If you find a good R1, don't pass it up unless it is really expensive.
